Failed...4 yrs past....got ssn...want retake rn

World Registration

Hi! I am planning to retake the NCLEX-RN examination this year and I need some advise.

I took my examination on 12/2010 and failed. I can't retake anymore because the CA-BON requires an SSN for applicants which I don't have at that time. After 4 years and now legal, I can now provide an SSN. I am planning to submit a re-application but I want to gather inputs on my eligibility, etc. And also, if someone knows how late does the Board keeps records/documents before it is considered abandoned/in active. I can reapply for me to know but I want to save the $150 fees, if possible. Do I need to start all over again from submission of documents? Do I need to go back to school since I am not a US graduate? Can I apply to a different state and use/request the requirements I submitted to BON in CA? Needs guidance....thank you...

Depending on when you trained and which country you may find you are no longer eligible in CA to sit NCLEX and meet their requirements. They have become very strict. You can not request the BRN to transfer your docs to another state you will have to start all over and meet that state's requirements depending on which agency they use ie CGFNS CES report requires the docs to come direct from school/institute

thank you for joining this post.

The students do this as assignments.

You will have to ask the board and not sure what they will tell you since you were not legal to begin with.

I find it amazing that they did not tell you this up front. Your school is the only source that the BON receives documents. You might check other states. Good luck

OP is an International Nurse and a few years ago most state board of nursing accepted applications without a US SSN however some will not issue a license without a US SSN. This doesn't mean that the applicant is an illegal applicant but an International applicant
