BON TX

World Registration

Published

Hi All,

I just want to give back to the allnurses community by posting my USRN experience in this thread. I just moved to the US last year and tried to apply to CA BON but unfortunately, they want me to take MedSurg and OB again. BTW, I am IEN from the Philippines. I tried to look for schools but unfortunately again, they can't get me into classes in one semester and I am not a priority student/regular student. So I decided to apply to the BVNPT and TX BON late last year for the meantime while Im waiting on a school to take me in. I submitted my declaration of nsg last February 2nd week and still no news from them until now. I passed my NCLEX for TX last May 9 and just landed on a job in the hospital here in TX and still no news from the BVNPT. I encourage everyone (esp my kababayans) to explore your options. CA isnt the only state and USA is a huge country.

Books I used:

Saunders, Lipincott Manuals of Nsg Practice, KAplan QA

online review from ncsbn

tips:

practice critical thinking ( no need to memorize everything)

study hard pray harder

think positive

be healthy, laugh

if you have questions about the app process or anything, feel free to message me.id be happy to share my experiences with you!

I just want to thank the OP, because of this post got an idea to try Texas. Now it's official I'm an RN. Thanks again...

Hi @ troikaenerio. I just wanna know how you started to become a registered nurse in tx.Coz my mom is in dallas, tx right now and we're waiting for my petition. Im here in ph right now and still waiting for the petition. I guess I have to wait years, and I'm loosing hope. I'm already turning 24 and I feel like I was left behind because I've been waitin' for so long for this. I don't wanna wait anymore. I wanna do something. I will appreciate your advice. Thank you so much!

Read the Texas state BON and look up requirements for International trained nurse requirements

If the petition was filed and approved by the USCIS before you reach the age of maturity, which is 21, you don't have to worry about aging out. You can't do much with family petitions but just wait. And since you are still in the Philippines, try seeking out nursing jobs over there because it is important for the TX-BON that you have taken the NCLEX-RN or at least worked an RN job within 4 years after graduating from a nursing program, assuming you graduated when you were 21. If not, they will tell you to attend a board approved refresher course before being issued a permanent license.

flamingwallflower is right. you need to keep on practicing the profession so by the time you are here, you dont have to take a refresher course which will just prolong your wait. Good luck! I really cant help you regarding your visa status. sorry

@Flammingwallflower and @Troikaenerio Nursing career here in ph is really downhill and the salary is not enough for the daily expenses even for basic necessity, and besides it is not what you know but whom you know when you're applying in any health care facility. So pathetic isn't? I am currently a gov't employee and working as a field worker because of the scarcity of social workers they hired nurses because our profession is somewhat related to theirs because of our community nursing and the salary is much better compared to nurses here in ph. I've been working for more than a year in this department and I feel like this is not what I want. I want to practice my profession and when the time came that I reached tx, Im hoping that I will be able to pursue my dream of becoming a usrn and practice it. I'm really determined and willing to do everything to be able to reach my dreams, that's why I'm seeking advices from people who have experiences. I am thinking of the possibility of going to saudi arabia to work as a nurse for three years while waiting for the petition because I feel like it will take a long time before I could go to there. When I get there, what are the first steps I should do to pursue my nursing career? or what are the things I could do while waiting here? should I take the nclex-rn here? or should I go to saudi to gain hosp. experience? If ever I won't be able to get a hospital experience till I get there, how long would it take for me to finish my refresher course? so does that mean that TX-BON will only allow me to take state board only if only I have a hosp. experience?(for how long?, should it be atleast four years after I graduated? or after I passed my nle?) I really don't know. I hope you could help me.

It is based on the date of your graduation. And if you don't have any nursing experience (2 years) you need a 120 days leeway before your 4th year after the date of your graduation, or else you'll need a refresher course that's what I understand.

But in my case, I don't have 2 years nursing experience, Almost hit the 4-year date after my graduation. Graduated April 2010, just took the test Feb 2014.

Texas-BON says:

(4) all applicants must pass the NCLEX-PN (LVN applicants) or NCLEX-RN (RN applicants) as a Texas applicant;(A) within four years of completion of the requirements for graduation from the nursing education program if the applicant has not practiced as a second-level or first-level general nurse since completing the requirements for graduation; or(B) within four years of the date of eligibility for the NCLEX-PN or NCLEX-RN if the applicant has practiced as a second-level or first-level general nurse at least two years since completing the requirements for graduation;

Taking the NCLEX-RN now or later depends on you. It wouldn't hurt taking it now since your mom did the first step to your American dream. I assume you already passed the NLE so you might want to take the NCLEX-RN now since like you said, it's hard to find employment to seek clinical experience. You have a 4-year window after your GRADUATION DATE whether to take the NCLEX-RN or get a clinical experience and then take the NCLEX-RN at a later date. The refresher course usually depends on the board's recommendation so idk how long or short it would take although the website says something about 6 months.

I'm not sure about your plan in getting clinical experience outside the country unless you know when will your case number for your petition becomes current. You should know that rescheduling a visa interview appointment with the US embassy in Manila will roll back your waiting time for six months or more.

I graduated march 2010 and this coming march would be the 4th year after my graduation. I passed nle july 2012. NCLEX-RN will expire isn't? I guess the petition would take 3-5 yrs long. Is there any possible way I could go there without the petition? My mom is getting old and she's alone. I wanna go there to stay with her for a long time. May I know how were you able to go to tx? Thank you guys for the info. More more blessings to come to good people like you..

Unless you find a employer willing to go the H1b route and usually that requires experience and skill then really there is not a way at the moment to get there any quicker except finding employer willing to go the EB3 immigrant route but even then it will still take several years

If you are successful in taking the NCLEX-RN and had been granted a license by a respective board of nursing, your license is subject to renewal just like your PRC license. Like what I have told you with my previous reply, you can't do much with family based petitions BUT TO WAIT. Unless you're going to come here thru employer-sponsored visa which is likely to give you a longer wait than what your mom already started.

I understand your concern about your mom but there's no easy way in coming here in the US. I encourage you to be proactive with your mom's petition and that's the only thing you can do. What you can do is to check the Visa Bulletin (which can be found on the US EMBASSY Manila website) on what visa number they are currently processing and then follow up with the embassy. You call or email them. Also ask your mom about your case number and its details. I believe if your petition was filed before you reached 21, you don't have to wait that long.
