Australian RN to work as US RN

Hi fellow nurses,

I have recently graduated as an RN in Australia and have started my paperwork for registration in the US.

However the Australian RN degree is deficient in mother and infant care that would be part of the US RN degree.

Does anyone know how I could go about this or where I can undertake these classes?

I have tried contacting various colleges in the US with and had no luck.

Any suggestions would be helpful ;)

Which state are you looking to live and work in? Dealing university used to be accepted by some states, California is not one of them that accepts it

@silverdragon Im not picky, any state that has a college willing to let me get the qualification I need. I will look into Dealing university. How did u find out about them.

I feel so lost, Ive tried so many colleges just to hear no.

Should have said Deakin university in Australia. Best thing is get assessment done of transcripts for a state in the US and then check with the BON that Deakin is OK. Deakin has cropped up with a few Australian nurses that had issues. Try a search for Deakin

Hi @sliverdragon. Thank you so much for your insight. Funny enough, I graduated from Deakin. I have asked them to help me find where I can take these classes, but it does not sound promising.

After having my transcripts accredited with CGFNS, I have contacted the BON in Washington, they say I need mother and infant care too.

Is there any other colleges you can suggest that I look into in Australia or US.

Hey melaniec! I am in Sydney and going through the same issues! How did you get your transcripts accredited in the first place? I'm confused in all aspects of this process! Keep me updated on your progress, I am aiming for Oregon!

Hi melaniec, did your CVS actually state that your education is comparable with US studies?

I went through the same process in 2011, but did not have to undergo further education as I had a Midwifery degree on my back. US curriculum are generalist nurses, same as with Canada.
