Ahpra application refusal

World Registration

Published

Hi everyone,

I´m a registered nurse from Germany with 4 years experience. Went to the whole registration process with ahpra and waited 7 months. Today I received an email, that they are considering to refuse my application. The reason for that is, that they do not consider my training as equivalent with the Australian one. That is really a joke. Has someone ever been in this situation before? How did you write your appeal letter?

How's your result? I have been waiting for 9 months so far...... I sent agreement for extension of assessment twice already.....

Due2007 - sorry have just seen your mail now. I don't log on often any more (busy working). Are you in Australia or Denmark?

Any news?

Hi Lisbeth,

I have been approved for the bridging program which must be completed before august this year and have asked for an extension. BSN from DK in 2008 enrolled nurse from 1995, Australian citizen, still have to do the english test although I grew up here. Have appealed through QNU with a lawyer, to no avail, seems it would have been easier if I could have moved back to Aus earlier. So now I work as an AIN, cant afford the bridging yet and cant leave my family to go to Melbourne. Sort of a hopeless situation, and even if you are an aussie, no finacial aid since the bridging program is not commonwealth approved, yet a bachelor degree is. Nothing they do makes any sense. Dont know how to send a private message to you!

Hello to you all,

I f anyone is interested in my story it is in the first page and on of this thread. I am very disappointed that EU nursed are banned from Australia. Imagine, when I applied in 2013 the regulation was that EU RNs were recognised and were granted registration in Australia. But in the process the rules changed, my application was assessed according to the new rules and the answer was to do a bridging course with no warranted registration at the end. I complained. No change. They made me withdraw my application. Finally I decided to leave Australia, I was very much disappointed. It is obvious that AHPRA is playing games with EU and US nurses. I you want to go to Australia get prepared to study nursing there all over again or change your career. That is the truth about Australia.

You're right, rules and policies change every year. But I guess that's for them to decide whatever they want to do to upgrade and maybe screen more RN's who enter Australia. The bridging program, if I may, is not studying nursing all over again. It basically educates you on the Australian standards and their healthcare system. This is basically new to every overseas nurse who would want to work in Australia. So yeah, to sum things up, if one wants to work in any country in the world for that matter, we should abide by their rules and fulfill all the needed requirements. If we can't or we don't want to, then that's our decision. This is just my 2 cents. :) Peace

I got denied by AHPRA- applied May 1st, 2016- december 22, 2016 got denied, appealed my rejection, and sent them 2,000 pages. What was in those pages? All of my lectures. I would do the same- send all the pdfs, every project you had in school. My case was turned around and as of yesterday I am now an OZ RN ;-) ( Oh and I am American). all in all it took my case 375 days...and I began to collect all of my data April 2016...so thats about 400 days in my case. However, I am " complicated"...I lived in germany for a while ( you have to get a background check), and coming from California, its a very backlogged State, they lost my " certificate of Good Standing", so that delayed everything by about 4 months.

Hi everyone, the outcome of my assessment was mailed to me this morning stating AHPRA's intention to refuse my application. However, there are certain things I do not understand about their decision. AHPRA requires me to undergo further studies in an NMBA approved pre registration program leading to registration as a registered nurse. Does this by any way mean a bridging program.

Further more, they gave me an opportunity to make a submission before 15th of October stating that if I do not make a submission that my application is to be considered refused.

Please am in dire need of clarification.

Hi chibundo, same here, but with the email I received is a letter endorsing me to a bridging program. hence i could use that to enrol for the BP. they are strict with their deadlines. so you should send them a reply if you would want to consider their recommendation, for me their recommendation is the BP.

I say they are strict because I missed the deadline for 3 days. and hence was emailed a final refusal... the verdict... a reapplication... so don't miss your deadline. i'm a nurse here in the Philippines.

And so with that I also need some help here! my agent said reapplication is not necessary now. Since I have the letter of endorsement to take the bridging program, reapplication should be done after finishing the BP... anybody having or had the same experience?

Pls pls... somebody shed some light to my concern. thanks so much!

Hello, I am wondering how AHPRA sends the letters of refusal. Do they send a scanned copy via email or do they put it in the post?

Hey Guys.. I know this thread is a little old, but I wanted to share in (some of) your frustrations, and give some heed of caution to those searching these sites for advice.

I am a RN in the USA, originally qualified in New York State in 2012 with my ADN. This is an Associate Degree in Science of Nursing which is NOT a certificate program, it is NOT a vocational program, it is a degree recognized nationally, from a State of New York University. For those who are not familiar with the US system, this program qualified me to take the NCLEX which is the national exam in the USA that every qualified nurse takes in order to obtain their pin and be registered. After passing and beginning practice, I completed my Bachelor in Science of Nursing in 2014. My bachelor program did not require any additional clinical hours, as I was already a qualified practicing RN. I worked full time as an RN from 2012 till present.

I applied to the AHPRA in December of 2016.

I spent thousands of dollars, and countless hours to get the appropriate paperwork in to the AHPRA, sent first class as requested, to prove my qualifications and status. This included a mandated letter from my elementary school (age 6) stating my education had been taught and assessed in English. I mean, my tertiary degrees were taught in English but apparently that alone was not sufficient to prove my English was sufficient.

My application was proposed to be declined due to 'insufficient clinical instructed hours (my original degree had only 495 apparently) and lack of proof of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics' classes. To be clear, my initial degree indeed did show I had less than the required 800 hours (and my aprox 8,000+ hours of practice as an acutal RN did not cover these), however pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics are integral components of ALL certified nursing program, which I proved my program WAS, or we would not be allowed to register as nurses!!!! DUH!!

I was told on the phone "here in Australia, we have standards" by my (one of the five I was passed through) registration officer.

My futile effort ended when I got sick of several "proposal for an extension of deadline for decision from the AHPRA"s, and I formally withdrew my application last month, and left Australia.

The whole process was exhaustive and quite frankly degrading.

I hope others are not having such an awful experience!! Good luck all!
