A Canadian Nurse who wants to work in Hong Kong

I am a Canadian nursing student, and will be graduated soon in June 2016. I planned to take my NCLEX exam in Canada after my graduation, and would like to move back to Hong Kong right after since I am born in there.

I have researched a lot regarding the Nursing Licensing Exam for oversea nurses in Hong Kong, and I know it is a very difficult examination regardless of its format and expectation. In the meanwhile, I am also lost and confused about the process of applying with the Nursing Council of Hong Kong in order to become eligible to write the licensing examination.

I read some post earlier on this forum, and noticed that there are people who migrate to Hong Kong in order to continue their careers too! So I really would like some help and advice from you guys about how does the process actually work? And as I have clinical experience working in a hospital settings as a nursing for four yeas, would you still recommend me to gain some extra working experience after my graduation in Canada before moving back to HK?

Thank You so much for your help!

Hi glor333,

Long time not seeing you posting! I have passed NCLEX-RN and waiting for Canadian nursing license now. How was your nursing license in Hong Kong, My friend from Western U, just took a written exam but she said she has no idea on the questions.. and she is waiting for the result in Toronto.

Hi, does anyone have any updates on getting their license in Hong Kong, with an overseas nursing education?

You don't need to requalify if you want to work in private practice. You can work in private practices with an oversea nursing license. Are you in HK already?

Hi becclkm.. I really need your help . I'm going to take hk nursing exam coming this September 2018 . Do you mind find me at WeChat ? My ID is yikei_chok92 . I Wan to ask you about Hong Kong nursing exam . Your reply I would be appreciate . Thank you :)

Hey guys, I posted a comment here when I was year 2, and now I'm year 4. Can anyone share their process or experience on becoming a nurse in HongKong after graduating in Canada? Any tips or advice on achieving this goal?

You need to sit the HK licensing exam if you want to work in the hospital. It's hard if you don't speak Cantonese. Western trained nurses who don't speak Cantonese are prob better off in a western private practice. I think the most western friendly hospitals are Matilda and Gleneagles.

Hi joyee,

Thanks for replying, I can speak cantonese. I heard the exams are really difficult to pass, is it true? How is it compare to NCLEX? Also, after graduating, are there anything I should do before going back to hongkong to take the exam? For example, should I work a year or two in Canada? Should I take extra courses?

I haven't sat the HK exam only NCLEX. Don't think there's additional items/hours

are you currently working in hongkong?

Hi everyone, it has been a while since my last post, and im writing my license exam in hk tmr. im feeling all the nervousness again and suddenly thought of my post in here.... and cant believe this post is still ongoing lol
