Right now I am looking at an online NP course, Frontier and University of Cin. I am a labor nurse and have a passion for women's health, but am I more marketable as a fnp. Is there a demand for one or the other?

Specializes in Education, FP, LNC, Forensics, ED, OB.

Hello,

I have no information on what is the more marketable of the two in your area. You need to do research of your area to see what the market will bear.

As for me, I was more marketable as FNP in my area.

Good luck.

you are the only one that has responded to me. I am glad. What school did you go to?

Specializes in Education, FP, LNC, Forensics, ED, OB.

I attended a couple of undergrad programs and did my grad at University of Texas.

Hopefully others will come along and answer you, too.

Good luck with your NP goals!!!!!!!!!

Specializes in CVICU, PACU, OR.

I have been debating about adult nurse practitioner vs. family nurse practitioner. I have decided on family nurse practitioner based on job openings in my area. I doubt I will work with children or women but I will be more marketable as a FNP and able to change specialties if I choose to do so.

Good luck with your decision!

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I also live in the midwest (near Peoria, IL) and in this area (central IL) an FNP is much more marketable.

Specializes in NP Business Coach, Mentor, Business Ed..

When I just had my GNP, I wanted to go back and get the ANP. What I found however, was that the FNP had more opportunities, so that is what I did. So while I'm a GNP/FNP, I still have the option of seeing just adults.

I personally think we should have one level of education with the opportunity to specialize. That way, you can move around as you desire - just like in nursing.
