Surviving ICD 10

Just changed over to ICD 10. I did not know there was so many ways to describe different body parts. There are anatomy descriptions I don't quite remembering learning in school It took me over an hour to figure out 5 codes. And that is with looking on the help sites. Something that took me seconds to do, took forever. Needless to say I did not leave work on time.

In psych I think we have it a little easier but what we always do is have a list of commonly used codes so you don't have to keep looking up the same presentation. We also have staff that looks over our billing and offers assistance if we aren't doing it correctly, lol.

Good luck.

Yep, the front desk double checks my bills and coding, then it gets sent to our billing agency for a final looksee before it is submitted. I just do my best to pick the right code and let them sort it out on the back end. And before the roll out, all of our most common diagnoses were matched with the right ICD 10 code and preloaded into our "quick picks" on the EHR.

Here is a GREAT site to download some "quick codes" by specialty. You have to "purchase", but in the end it is free and you can download which ones you find fit your practice: https://www.aapc.com/icd-10/icd-10-reference-guides.aspx.
