Should I postpone school AGAIN?? Need Advice Please!!

Two years ago I got accepted to a MSN program but had to decline because I was put on bed rest for pregnancy. Looking back, I know I could've gotten thru that first semester--it would have been difficult, but I didn't have any other responsibilities and wish I would have forged through. Last year I wanted to reapply but the school was getting their DNP program together and wasn't accepting MSN applications anymore. This year I applied for the DNP program. Then I found out I'm pregnant. Then I got accepted to the program starting in the Fall. The baby is due in November and it will be a repeat c/s so it's not like I'll be on my feet the day after delivery. I need advice please!!! I really don't want to put this off AGAIN!! I have pretty good support from family who lives nearby. The two classes that first semester (I'll be going part time) are Theory and Patho, both are online so I won't have to attend actual classes. Do you honestly think it's do-able with a newborn, a 2 year old, and dealing with c/s surgery? I don't work currently so that's not an issue. In your experience, are professors willing to work with students and let them complete work early?

Thanks so much for reading and (hopefully) replying!!

I don't know what it would be like to be in your exact situation, but in my experience instructors were accommodating if you let them know upfront and worked it out together. It may not always be ideal (you may have to cram or make up hours later), but if not now, when? If things get too crazy you could always go part time. At some point, if this is what you want, you just have to go for it. Having supportive family and not working should help a lot.

Good luck!

Thank you for your words of support. You're right, if not now then when? Something will probably always come up...that's just life, right? :)

I would go for it and be up front with your instructors right away.

Good luck.

My particular school does not make allowances--for anything...A few instructors will move deadlines, but as a general rule-they are not very easy to change. In saying that--the first year--I worked full time with 3 children (all school age)--and I believe the first year is doable. My instructors advised going to part-time or quitting for the last clinical year. That was excellent advice. It's hard to be a good mom, worker, wife, student...Something will give. I have great family support from my husband--and he has made this possible. So--Good luck with your decision AND the new baby...sounds like you have a plan!
