Hi I am from the boston area and am having a hard time obtaing PMHNP precept hours. They can be with a pdoc, NP psych, or CNS. Any ideas. I am getting letters of recommendations as well as networking. I think the school I go to will find me someone if I cant, however they frown upon that... ( That is a whole other story... all the money I pay).

Also for anyone who has already been precepted, what did you do, meet with patients, recommend treatments and meds? Just curious.

Where I work, although I like to have "mentees", there is an issue of our agency having a contract with the school, to spell out expectations, liabilities and etc...Setting up a contract can take time. I wonder if your school spelled this out for you, it needs to be considered too...Good luck!

Which school do you go to? I am about to start PMHNP and worried about finding a preceptor. I need to find a board certified PMHNP. I don't think my school would even allow a psychiatric MD to precept (if I could even find one). I wish, because psych MD would be easier to find. My school is University of South Alabama.

I just got the boiler plate contract and I am working on getting all of my recommendations together... Can't wait to precept. I absolutely love psych. even though it has its own set of challenges. I feel that I can take my energies and devote it to this field of practice.

You need to ask the school, because cleary there are not enough psych np/cns around. MD's can precept nurses as long as they agree to the contract.. That can be difficult.

Check with the commanders of military hospitals. I received immediate approval for a preceptor.

Now that is a good idea. Thanks.
