Nurse Corps Loan Repayment 2014!

Specialties NP

Published

Hi everyone,

I am an NP working at a NY facility with a score of 19, which is tier 1. My loans each month are CRAZY (about $1500), so even though my debt:income score isn't as high as some (it's about 120%), this would be life changing for me!

I was just hoping to get some general advice/thoughts from everyone during this very painful waiting process. I've heard that if you do get the award you generally find out in July/August, otherwise rejections mainly come around October.

Has anyone else been in my shoes, with a similar facility score and debt/income score, with any words of wisdom? I'm nervous and thought it would just be nice to chat with other people who are going through the same thing, or who have been through it!

Lastly, for the folks who have gotten this before, what ways do you utilize it? Do you use it to make your minimum monthly payments and try to save, or do you make 1.5 x your regular payments? Pay off private loans first?

Just thought it would be nice to get a convo going this application cycle!

Sarah :)

I'm NP in Chicago, my application is still "under review" I am in an area with a score of 19 and my debt to income is 137%. I am pretty nervous that I haven't heard one way or another, yet. I pay over $1000 in loans every month. Hard to raise a family with that kind of debt.... Anyway I am trying to keep my hopes up. Looking forward to hearing from other people about this. I am wondering if it matters if they checked your credit or not? Has anyone heard that they were denied? Thanks!

RSTALLS, I am and NP as well and received my letter 6/24 for NHSC, no final acceptance yet. Did you apply for both programs? The nurse Corp and NHSC? NP's are very likely to get funded under NHSC as 1/2 funds are set aside for them. Make sure you apply for both if you are not awarded. There is still a great chance as long as you followed the app instructions to a tee. Good luck!

I applied for the Nurse Corps. The facility that I work at is not a facility that is on the NHSC list. The facility did not apply for it this year for whatever reason. So I only applied for the one program. Thank you for the boost! I am glad to hear that you got it!

I have just started researching this program and am still a little confused about a few things. First of all, how do we find out our facility's score and tier? And when can we apply for the program? I just graduated with my BSN in May. Any advice would be great, thanks!

ahhh! It's official! My contract has been countersigned 7/25/2014 04:05:39 PM EDT. (I received my acceptance notification on June 30, 2014.)

I cannot believe it. It feels almost too unreal.

Good luck everyone! I hope we all get it!!!

Hi all!

I am an RN in Utah at a hospital with an HPSA score of 11, and a debt to income ratio of 133%. I got my finalist e-mail today, and am pretty ecstatic since my loans are crippling. I was wondering what could go wrong at this point? I mean the finalist e-mail was pretty encouraging since it had me sign the contract and everything already, but I hate to get my hopes up too high. Is it pretty much a done deal if you get the finalist e-mail, and you just want for the secretary to sign off, or do they review your application more rigorously? Like I said, just don't want to get my hopes up too high, but this would certainly be life changing if it were to come through...

I am an RN with BSN. I applied to the nurse loan repayment program. My facility's HRSA score is 16, so tier 1, and my D/I ratio is at 90%. My application is still "under review" as of 8/5/14. No word yet :(( I am getting anxious that I may not get awarded. Anyone else out there in my situation that got the award?

Congrats kdawnz!! I am happy for you that you got the finalist e-mail. You're in a good place I think. Quick question, are you advanced nurse practitioner, or just an RN? I am RNBSN, HPSA score 16, tier 1, D/I ratio at 90%. No word yet :(

Where is everyone looking to see if their application is "in review" etc? I searched the HRSA site and the Nurse Corps site at HRSA and can find nothing. I have received not notification in any way, but am wanting to stay positive.

I log into the portal- that's where I see it's status.

Hi all -

Quick question. I just looked at my signed contract and noticed that it has also been electronically signed by an HRSA OFAM approver on Aug 6th. However, I haven't received any notifications from them and my status is still "under final review". Any idea what this means? Did anyone else have this happen?

Thanks!

What date did it show it was cosigned? From what I've read, I think you'll be getting the congrats email any day now if you got the cosign. When did you receive the initial finalist email and sign your contract?

Oops, munirnbsn, sorry I just saw your question. I'm a staff RN. I'm in tier 2, but I just redid the math and my actual debt to income ratio is about 190%.
