NPs in Charlotte, Houston, Dallas or Austin??

  1. 0 Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

Thank God I am in my LAST year of NP school! I have a year left and have decided that I want to move out of Florida. I've lived here my entire life, no kids or anyone keeping me here so I want to move to either TX or NC. I would love to here about the NPs currently practicing in these cities and any helpful information regarding salary, job satisfaction, etc. The city I choose will definitely be dependant on the salary and job offer but I do like that TX has no state taxes. Please fill me in!

I practice in Austin! Do not come here if money is a concern of yours. The best money here seems to be in quick clinics (redi clinic in HEB grocery stores or Minute clinics in pharmacies) but from what I hear you work off very strict guidelines/protocals (not much decision making yourself and very limited scope). Houston and Dallas pay better, although Austin is a fun city if you are single. The market here also seems very over saturated. With that said, I work in family practice with a wonderful physician with basically full autonomy and great hours. PM me if you have any other questions!

I practice in the DFW area. I agree with Brit..Austin will be more fun for you if you are fun and young and hip and single! DFW is a good place too but definitely not as pretty and not the same scene. For an average new grad in family practice you can expect to earn about 85K-88K to start (40-45 an hour on average, some more, some less).

Thank you for the feedback! I hear Austin is very beautiful, but I would like a nice salary

That's a starting rate that I like, plus TX has no state taxes like FL. Thanks for the feedback!

If I was young and single and no ties and graduating with an NP degree I would head to N.Carolina. Texas is land locked except for a bit of coastal area that is really not much to look at. Carolina has mountains and beaches and East Coast access all within a few hours drive. If my husband came home today and said he was transferred to NC I would seriously get up and grab a box to start packing..no questions asked, lol!

Lol! I'm actually visiting Charlotte next month to take a look at the city! A lot of people say how beautiful it is! I've been there once but only for a day and barely got a chance to look at the city! I wonder what they start NPs with vs cost of living

Please DO share what you learn! We are interested in relocating there someday so I would be interested to see. Asheville is a fun and happening city right in the heart of the Blue Ridge mountains...SIGH...my dream area to live in! ENJOY your youth and your unattachedness, lol.

I absolutely love Charlotte, NC! It is definitely on the top of places to move to after graduation! It was a bit cold compared to FL but the city is BEAUTIFUL! I visited a few places to stay and I really like Southpark and uptown areas.
