Job offer confusion

My current preceptor for my PMHNP program offered me a job in February. No money or anything talked about just said you have a job when you graduate with me if you want it. It is in child/adolescent which is where I intended to land. As time has gone on we have talked about how quickly I want to test etc. and then last week he asked me if I want to be contract or an employee. I don't know enough about the field to know which will be better for me. I just want a job doing what I love with a doctor I like and trust.

So which is better, should I ask to see paperwork about both? I know I will be in different locations a lot. He is the medical director at two hospitals and also has long term patients at a hospital that takes care of ID patients. He has a private practice that he recently started and sees outpatient chronically mentally ill patients for a day treatment center. His staff now consists of legal, accounting, an LPN, and another psychiatrist (this doc only works at one of the hospitals and sees adult patients I would fill in for him on vacation or when asked if he needs me). Help me I don't want to make a mistake. There are other jobs out there but I really enjoy being a part of the facilities I have been at for the past year. There is also some travel involved I should add.

Hmm...I would ask to see both sets of paperwork and have an employment lawyer look them both over. I spent $300 to have a JD/MD look it over.

current mileage rate is $.565. Per mile. I travel approx 250-500 miles per week in my job so it does add up.

CME $1500-2000 per yr with five days seems to be the usual

hrs expected to work? 40, 50 or more?

Thank you that gives me some jump off points. Would it be too much to ask for fees for licensure and testing with a contract over one year?
