Hey everyone! I'm 21 and in nursing school now and I work as a CNA in a hospital. I notice a lot of the nurses I work with are going back to school to get their masters and become an NP. I never really considered becoming one before because I don't feel I am smart enough. I'm a C student when it comes to nursing because let's be honest, its hard!! But give me any other class like english or math and I will get an A or B. Anyways, I'm just wondering if anyone is considering continuing their education after nursing school? I really can't see myself working on the unit as a nurse for the rest of my life, too long of hours on your feet and you can only have so much patience. I just don't know if I am smart enough to become one if I'm already struggling in nursing school. And also do you think its best to just continue with school after you get your RN or do you think its better to gain some experience on the floor and then go to school? I want your adviceee! And id also love to hear some success or motivational stories any of you NP's have! :)

Well I am finishing my last year of nursing school :) it is incredibly hard but we knew it was going to be hard. So I knew that I wanted to be a NP so I know after graduating next year I will have to keep going to school! Lucky for me my school has a bridge program and will let you take combo bsn/msn classes cutting down my schooling. So I say take it a semester at a time if this is what you want. I know if I stop going to school I am not starting back again!!!! Good luck :)

If you have the desire anything is possible. If being an NP is something you want, or even something you think you might want, work hard and you can make A's and B's. Most credible NP programs will require a 3.0 nursing GPA (you may get admitted conditionally with a lower GPA). So if you don't want to limit yourself just keep you goal in mind on those nights when it would be easier to sleep than study.
