I just started my first NP job this week, and I am nervous about my new responsibility...but on the other hand, it is so exciting for me to be writing orders after practicing for so long. Yesterday I had the biggest smile on my face just because someone asked if I would write an order for a patient to get out of bed-which she was already doing safely, but someone just forgot to write activity orders when the patient was admitted a few days ago. How funny is that-that even writing the smallest order makes my day! :) lol

I hear you, it is way cool...

One of my MD partners lets me write out orders for the inpatients since I'll remember stuff like that. Must be the nursing background!

And I'll say, this is SO MUCH BETTER than waiting around to take the cert exam!

I remember that I was most excited about signing my first prescription. I had been writing the scripts all through clinicals, but I had to get the docs to sign them. It was like...OMG, I CAN ACTUALLY WRITE PRESCRIPTIONS JUST LIKE A DOCTOR!

I know. Waiting to take the exam was just torture!

I have been writing orders for meds for inpatients & it is so strange not to write another provider's name! For instance I am so used to writing TOV w/ so and so, and then my name. It is so hard to not think that way!

I'm guessing "telephone order verified" by some provider... We used TO/Provider name/VBR (verified by repetition).

And speaking of orders, I got to write referrals to other providers today... I can't get over how much fun this is... and we get paid too! :chuckle

Congratulations! That would have to be such a high.

Writing orders and presciptions were exciting for me when I first became certified 4 yrs ago.

I remember also getting the RX pad at our office with my name at the top with my name and credentials! That was pretty impressive, too.

Congrats!
