How to file a complaint against the CA BON?

Hello,

I am a recent FNP graduate in California. I have been waiting 10 weeks for my license. It took 9 weeks for them to tell me they were missing a document and now say I have to wait 4 weeks for them to process this. I am also honorably discharged military and their website says they are obligated to expedite my application. Their processing times shows that they are now working on applications received a month after mine, so my application was obviously not expedited. I have a job offer that I may lose soon and my loans have come due. What is the process of making a complaint against the BON? Does it make any difference? Thank you for any advice!

Contact the bon

I have been calling them once a week on average for the last couple of months. The people who answer the phones are never very helpful. I have tried to speak to supervisors, but they just send you straight to voicemail and never call back. I think I am going to submit a complaint to the department of consumer affairs, I am just not sure if that is the right place. I just want to make sure I contact the right agency and I am not sure who oversees the BON.

Office of public health or something

I looked around the DCA website and found they do oversee the BON. Here is the link: Boards/Bureaus - California Department of Consumer Affairs

California is a nightmare. I never found anyone to complain to. It's big government at its best. I have heard that some have had to get attorneys or wait months. My friend lost a job because of the red tape. Other states are prompt and receptive. Good luck.

Well I submitted a complaint to the DCA. I will let you know if it helps anything!

I'm not a CA resident, but I was interviewing for an FNP job there a while back and worked with a recruiter who was very familiar with the BON process as he hired exclusively for California. One "secret" he told me was to actually go to the BON office and do everything in person. Since you've already submitted everything your best bet may be just to request an in person meeting. This advice wasn't helpful for me because I live on the east coast and couldn't afford to fly out there, but if you live close enough to Sacramento this could help move things along.

Regarding the loans, are they federal? If so you should be able to request up to 3 years of unemployment, during which you make no payments. You could also sign up for an income based plan, where they take a percentage of your income each month based on the salary reported on your last tax return. If you didn't work last year your payments would be zero. I'm obviously not an expert with this stuff but just a thought I had reading your post! I'd give your lending office a call, usually there are ways to delay payment when necessary.

Am I understanding this correctly: you were missing a document that was required so you are filing a complaint against the BON for taking too long to process your application?
