FNP in Georgia

Hey all!

I just graduated FNP school in May. I am currently in Connecticut and am moving to Georgia, the Savannah area. I am all set with my licensing, I only need DEA registration which I'm waiting until I find a job. The issue I am having is that I am having a difficult time finding a job. I find a lot of places there want an experienced NP. Does anyone have any advice? Comparing opportunities from CT and GA, there also doesn't appear to be as many NP opportunities as in CT so I'm wondering if it's an area that doesn't use NPs as much? Help! Thank you in advance.

Hello

I'm an ACNP originally from Savannah, GA. There are plenty of NPS there!!!! You just got to know where to look. Start with GEA (Georgia Emergency Associates) - they staff ERs. Also, Southeast Lung Associates may be hiring. The hospitals there are St. Joseph's/Candler and Memorial University Medical Center. They directly hire NPS also

Thanks, I've tried Memorial, no luck. I've found a lot of places are not interested because of experience. It's frustrating; how am I to gain experience if no one will give me the experience to start with. I have been looking on indeed, PAjobsite, wherever I could find. A lot of things like monster, simplyhired all have the same positions just different sites. I did e-mail Southeast Lung Associates. Thank you for your post.

Hopefully you didn't forget about GEA. They are perpetually hiring because they're a large company. Idk if ER is your thing... they also staff urgent cares too. also you can check South Coast's websitr. They are a multispecialty, multiple site clinic - cardio, pulmonary, primary care, GI, etc. St. Joseph's / Candler also hires for their hospital affiliated clinics as well as a few hospital positions. Check also Chatham Hospitalitst Group. They don't post positions; rather they ask all providers to email their CV. They are the hospitalist group that St. Joseph /candler contracts with.

A lot of the savannah jobs aren't online. That is because everyone in the medical community knows everyone, so there's a bit of referral to one another /personal connections. Can make it a little hard for outsiders. Because of the tight knitNess of the medical community (notice the euphemism), you may have to work as an RN for a little bit, get to know the doctors and you'll find out that way who needs an NP. Don't be discouraged. The South in general is good Ole boyish.

I will state that many NP's leave Georgia upon graduation. The reason is we were the last to get prescription priviledges. We have to have a collaberastive agreement with an MD to sign 10% of charts. The money here is less. I make as a NP what many RN's make in other states. I wish I could leave but have kids in school and am underwater on my home!

I can see that. I ideally wanted to stay in Connecticut as APRN's can now practice independently (with circumstances) since 2014. It's a great time to be an APRN here and there are so many opportunities. My significant other is in Georgia and will be for the next 3 years which is why I am moving there. I agree with the wage as well. I will be taking a very large pay cut going from an RN here to being an NP there. However, right now, I'd like to get my feet wet and gain experience.
