APRN Advocacy: Article Disparages NPs

Just saw this article taking about the new bill in Florida to expand NP independence. While it may not have been intentional, the article really downplays NP education saying that they have "a two year degree beyond the normal RN requirements"

Absolutely untrue, it is a MASTERS degree beyond a BACHELORS. Feel free to send them an email about it!

Many many moons ago a conservative right-wing republican senator presented a bill that would have given Florida ARNP's prescriptive authority for scheduled drugs - and it still has not passed. No surprise there. I started my RN career in that state in 1996 and began my NP degree there too, but soon left - screw Florida (they are stuck in the "Dark Ages") and the FMA - they can have it.

It does seem they are very anti NP but maybe this time it will pass. Seems to have a lot of support.

I do find it curious that Southern states are so anti NP. It seems like Pacific Northwest and northeastern states have the most NP support while southern states have the least. What could be the reason? NP independence almost mirrors blue states during presidential elections.

Anytime someone has a monopoly and someone else tries to get into that monopoly there will be a turfwar. That is all that is going on. Stick around and you will see this in every state where someone attempts to give NPs more autonomy. The physician groups don't like it, and they try to fight it.
