OK, how long has it taken for you guys to go through the application and credentialing process?

I sent in my application well over a month ago and was just told a few days ago that it was complete (it was sent in in full!!), also, how long has credentialing at your various facilties taken (for APN's).

It took me 7.5 weeks to schedule my NP exam after I sent in my application. I took it on July 31st, and got my license about 3-4 weeks later, and I just got my DEA # this week.

I sent my application to ANCC end of May, got authorization to test in mid July, tested end of July, license by mid-August. My employer got my DEA and all the other provider numbers by mid-September.

For me, the ANCC was the big delay (apparently had a record number of apps this year). I actually saw my authorization online, and took the test the day after I received the letter. To get the paper with the official credentialling took ~5weeks after the test.

FWIW I heard the waits with the AANP were even longer.

the AANP screwed up my paperwork and it took me nearly 3 months to sit for my exam.

credentialing with the insurance plans takes months, my employer has somebody who takes care of it for me so I'm not sure how long but many months at least

Licensing and certification exams I can't answer to but credentialling I can:

hosp A - 1 month

hosp B - 2 months

hosp C - 1 month

hosp D - 8 months!!!!!

hospi E (affiliated with hospital A) - 3 months

hosp F - ????? still waiting after two months...

Usually the credentialing process is a long one. I remember that I was able to get credentialed at one facility in a month, but only because I worked for one of the docs who sat on the Board of Directors. It took anywhere from 2-4 months to get credentialed at the other hospitals. I remember a doctor telling me that it usually takes about 4 months to get credentialed at a hospital. I'm not sure why though. It also takes a while to get credentialed with insurance companies. You will need a NPI number, so make sure you get that ASAP.

My credientialling person said that she would take care of getting those numbers? Is that usually the way it works? I hope that it doesn't take too long... I will be a federal employee and just my application moving through the system seems to be taking for forever!

Thank goodness you have someone taking care of all that for you! I was fortunate enough to go to work for a doctor right out of school and his office manager took care of all that. I didn't realize how lucky I was until I met all these other NP's who didn't even have a NPI#, UPIN#, Medicare #, DEA license, etc. I'm sure a lot of new NP's miss out on excellent opportunities simply b/c docs don't want to mess with all that paperwork.

I work for a large practice and we have one person who does all of our credentialling - whew what a load off. She calls me every so often to come and re-credential and sign stuff and its always done early!

However, my current experience trying to get the stuff done by myself is ridiculous: no one returns phone calls, emails, and no one sends stuff in, like reference letters, employment verification - ugh!~
