ACNP job question - please advise

I live in Mississippi. I am scheduled to graduate from an AGACNP program next month. I have a job offer with a hospitalist group. They have offered a rate of $44.15/hr. Is this the average beginning salary or should I ask for more? Just starting off I really don't want to push my luck. But, I've been a RN for >20 years and my hourly rate is 32/hr. I guess I was hoping for more. Please advise. Thank you.

Location, location, location - just like real estate.

You have to say your geographical location for people to know if that's a good salary. In SoCal or NYC? Probably not.

What else is included in the compensation package? Sometimes a low-ish hourly salary can be offset by a substantial CME allowance, generous vacation days, great healthcare coverage, pension plan, malpractice coverage, and bonuses. I don't personally know what a good NP salary is in Mississippi, however.

I have a friend who works in Mississippi and has been an NP for 5 years. She makes less than that an hour. Pay is lower in the South. I think that is a very good starting salary. Of course, as previously posted, you must also consider the benefits.

I lived in Georgia and was just visualizing a starting pay of 45.00/hr. So I would say that

starting salary isn't bad. Gain some experience then move on if you need too.

Do some research on the going salary rate in your area. And please clue us in on your other benefits they offered.

Do you get a productivity bonus based on how many patients seen? On-call pay? Etc...

I would advise negotiating if you're not happy with that rate.. You never know what they would say unless you ask.
