We have a new nurse in the office, who seems to have a problem with being asked to do something , with out going in to great detail her attitude is unacceptable . When asked to do task if she thinks it is beneath her or too much work she gets defiant. The other day when she was told I wanted something done a certain way she replied she can kiss my A**. Meaning me. I have asked her on other occasions to do something and the reply was I'm not doing it if you want it done you do it. The last straw was when I asked her to start neb for a child being seen for a asthma attack her response was I'm going on break , and she had been at work a hour. I think I know now why she has had so many jobs in her career as a nurse. Talking to her gets nowhere time to let management deal with her.

Not sure why you stay at this dreadful practice....sounds horrible.

I would be long gone.

Specializes in allergy and asthma, urgent care.

I would go to management about her, and then I'd be updating my resume. You deserve to work at a better place.

Specializes in ICU, ER, OR, FNP.

People think I am a pain -but you MUST let everyone involved know:

The only reason they have jobs is because YOU came in to work today and YOU see patinets and YOU Dx and generate RVUs. EVERYONE else in the building has a job to help you be better, faster, more efficient. If they don't want to make it a better place by making your day better - they need to moce on. period.

If your nurse thinks she keeps the lights on and can Dx, treat, Rx and perform procedures - she should take her lazy ass somewhere else and open her own business.

+1

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Only thing I would add is to remind this individual that the patients are who we are there for. I can not generate revenue without patients. Meeting their needs in the best possible way is job #1.

Completely unacceptable behavior. I would be documenting everything and letting TPTB aware of my concerns.

If this is the same office you've been at for a while, they are NEVER going to hire quality nurses/MAs. They are NEVER going to stand behind you and support you when you are treated poorly by staff. They are NEVER going to be a safe place to practice evidence-based medicine. Remain at that practice to your own peril.

I hire/fire my own staff, except for the clinic RN and I did help interview and all of us (providers) had equal votes when it came time to select the final candidate. Are you just stuck with whomever they hire for you? That would not fly with me.

I've been reading your posts, and everything about this job seems terrible. Why do you stay?

Things did improve for quite some time and are far better except for this individual . I spoke to her in private and together with the office manager . She was told this behavior will not be tolerated and was written up, I am under the impression she is looking for a new job. She certainly will not get a reference from me, asfar as staying its the patients that I see that makes it enjoyable, two I am under contract with Nhsc and there is no way to get out of the commitment unless I find another site with my speciality. So far I have looked and not found anything so in the meantime I've grown some balls and am speaking out. Ive always been one not too make waves or speak out thinking that was the easiest way to a harmonious work enviroment well it wasn't working and I've changed my attitude I'm still easy to get along with but they realize I'm not going to be walked on and taken advantage of. Working in a underserved population is challenging to say the least.

Oh. Since you are locked in due to a NHSC committment, I would say the best thing to do is NOTHING. Cover yourself as well as you can from a legal perspective while you're there. Make sure you have your own liability policy that includes tail coverage. Do your time, learn what you can - even about what is and what isn't appropropriate behavior in the office, what type of people you want to work with in the future, etc. - and take all that with you on the day you are eligible to leave.

Yes, I agree with that. ^^^

Personally, I'd quit and pay the money back myself while working in a healthier and more enjoyable environment, but not everyone prioritizes the way that I do. I think being happy in your work and among your colleagues, and having fun on the job (!) is the single most important aspect of any job. I would never pick money over camaraderie. Not everyone has that luxury, and if you are truly just stuck there, I'd keep my head down and mouth shut, grit my teeth and hang on until I could take a better opportunity.

Good luck.

I love nursing and I would not tolerate anyone in the profession acting unprofessional. Like any job there are those who love what they do and for them it is a calling. Unfortunately, there are those who see nursing as a pay check only and have joined nursing because it offers such diversity and the pay is better than at a check out counter. Not meaning to place those employed as such down. I've worked in that position myself while going through nursing school.

I would definetly talk to management and if nothing is done to rectify the situation, start looking for another facility to work at. Don't place yourself at risk of a lawsuit and toxic environment. Good Luck
