I took the AANP (passed) 3 weeks ago. It's very clinical based with a few legal NP issues thrown in. If you have used the Fitzgerald review book you should be fine. There are several questions on the test that are verbatim from the book. It seemed like the majority of my questions were knowing what is normal versus abnormal in the physical exam such as murmurs, labs, PPD screen results. I believe there are 15 sample questions on the test. Don't let these freak you out. I was pretty sure I could tell a few of my sample questions. My very first questions I had an ECG strip to interpret. Then I also had a photograph of a dermatology condition as my second questions. Those were most likely sample questions. Stay positive, pace yourself, and you will be great!! :) Good luck!

I am taking the AANP next week as well. I have been through the Fitz CDs and workbook twice and the Fitz review book once. I was only averaging about 70% on the review book questions the first passs. I took two Fitz practice exams today and scored 92%. I doubt if that is representative of where I am because I recognized a lot of questions from the course and review book. Do you think this is enough prep or should I sign up for an APEA practice exam as well to double check? What were you averaging during practice questions??

Thanks,

browndog

Thanks so much for responding. When you say that the questions were much like the book, which book do you mean the Fitzgerald review book or the book that goes with her tapes. thanks so much. nicole

I was referring to the Fitzgerald review book (I believe it's blue/purple). Not the small workbook book that goes along with the audio cds. Although I did use that workbook and audio cd also. Very helpful! My personal experience I would only use the Fitzgerald revies book and the Fitzgerald workbook that goes with the audio cd. I freaked out and thought I wasn't studying enough do I purchased additional books. A book I would definitely not recommend is: Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination: Review Questions and Strategies by Jill Brown. It's terrible!! I sent each of you a personal message. :)

Thanks Alisabeth.

Folks I passed the AANP today - at least "unofficially". I prepared very thoroughly (Fitz CD and workbook twice / Fitz review book twice with all questions / Fitz online practice questions / numerous worksheets) and STILL found myself staring "deer in the headlights" at the computer with my mouth agape. I mean jeez. I did about 3,000 questions and spent probably 80 to 100 hours studying for this thing. I expected to breeze through it - but nope. I marked 42/150 for review and ended up changing 8. This was no fun at all.

BUT I AM DONE!!

I can't thank you enough for the private message. I will let you know how I do. Thank you, thank you, thank you

Hi Alisabeth!! I am new to this site and not even sure how the messaging goes. I wont be taking my AANP until December, but it doesnt hurt to get a jump on things. I have a few review apps on my phone and some of the review books leik and Fitzgerald. But i wanted to know since you have taken the exam, which questions actually get you prepared? You can email me or respond if you get a chance!! [email protected]
