coworker smells like alcohol

Nurses Relations

a nurse was recently transferred to our dept and smells like alcohol all day. In the am it smells fresh, by the afternoon she has that "old alcohol" smell. A coworker went to our supervisor and was told that this an old issue. that she has know for years that this nurse has a drinking problem but as long as it doesnt interfer with job performance, its ok. we must be able to trust our coworkers, isnt that interfering with her job??

If her supervisors are aware, then coworkers have done their part. If something makes the situation acute, a written report should be made, but until then, note that administration is aware.

If the manager said that, that was really unprofessional. A manager has no business discussing a staff member's personal history with other staff nurses.

It sounds as if they have been condoning the behavior for quite some time. Not surprised that they would talk about it. Certain it has been a topic of conversation quite frequently, right or wrong.
