UNC Chapel Hill deadline changed for May 2010

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

I am waiting to hear back for Spring 2010 admission to UNC-Chapel Hill and got an email that there is a new earlier deadline for the May 2010 entry- December 22, 2009. So depressing to already get re-applying info when you haven't heard back yet. Why, oh why is this school not easier to get into?

The email said Spring 2010 applicants would hear toward mid-November. This sounds like an unbelievably short amount of time to accept their offer and line up financial aid. I have been accepted at Duke and have to line up loans for that if Carolina doesn't offer me admission. I hope one month is enough time.

Hi everyone.... I got a waitlist letter too.....Carolina11....do you have to fax something back ?? Is it for ABSN ... that is my option....do you think its first come first serve sending these letters back? How many students do they accept for the ABSN program...and waitlist....??? Are there Denial letters too.....so 'waitlisters' still can have hope??!!! Thanks!

nic11-Yes, I have to send back that reply form confirming my spot on the waitlist. Don't forget if you do fax it, you still have to send in the original. I think they take about 40 students into the ABSN program. I'm not sure about the 'first come, first served' idea, but I'd send it in asap. There are bound to be denial letters, as I'm sure they had more than 40 applicants to the ABSN program. I have no idea how many are on the waitlist, or where I fall within that list, but always have hope!

Hey guys! I got waitlisted my first application cycle so I might have some information. I actually did not receive a letter from the school for a month and a half because three different letters that were sent to me were either sent to the wrong Courtney Brooke Wilson (I eventually found out there were five different applicants for that name for different schools at UNC) or were just lost in the mail. Eventually I went to the office of undergraduate admissions and picked up the letter myself because it was an extenuating circumstance. When I saw that you had to send a letter back immediately with your waitlist intention, I was really concerned and called the school to express my concern that I wouldn't be considered equally with other waitlist candidates because I hadn't had a chance to send my letter back in.

Apparently, unless you sent a flat-out denial of wanting to be waitlisted, they kept you on the waitlist. They also explained that order of the return of letter had nothing to do with their admission, and admission of a replacement candidate wasn't done by going straight down a list of numbered candidates, either - that they weigh weightlist admissions carefully. I think what they do is have a deadline by which they count all denials, and then formulate a new waitlist based on the remaining candidates, and then select replacements from that - I THINK? Whatever they did in the spring, it wasn't just based on going down a list, though! So maybe that's still the case. If you want to find out for sure, though, I'd recommend calling the school and seeing what information they can give you, because who knows if there have been procedural changes!

I hope this helps!

HI thuscwspake

Thanks for the note..... Can I ask you, are you in the program or graduated from UNC? Which program, ABSN or BSN? I did send the acceptance for waitlist...but everyday I'm more excited to attend the other program I was accepted to! I think it might be a better fit for me! I just wish there was time to shop both programs, if the oppourtunity comes my way. Thanks for your advice!!!!

ps...anyone else that might have attended program or has some info is very much welcome!

Hey Nic,

I went to UNC for my undergrad work in Journalism and English and graduated in 2007, but I was accepted last week into the 2010 BSN program. However, I applied in the spring for the BSN program and was waitlisted then because I was currently enrolled in physiology. After completing that class in May, I applied again to the program.

If you do decide to apply again to UNC, definitely meet with a nursing school representative (I met with the associate dean) to discuss how you can strengthen or change your application. They'll give you great advice and will be forthright with you. If not, good luck in whatever program you choose!

where else are you considering?

I am at Wake Tech and have been there doing all my pre-reqs...I have formed relationships and friends, that it would be hard to leave.... and we have already been getting so much info for the program that I would hate to start from square one, waiting and waiting. We've done background checks, physicals and all... I already have my bachelors and wanted to possibly do the acceralated pogram, thats why I applied for that! but after talking to alot of students, instuctors and nurses.. I think the ADN program is a better fit for me..allowing for more hands on experience, which you will also get in a 2 year BSN program. Things happen for a reason and I am excited to be at Wake Tech. I will do a MSN program for sure! Possibly Carolina!

Wake Tech has a great program! Then you can do RN to BSN or RN to MSN online while you're working.

I was lucky that all the prereqs were done with my biology degree, but it was over 5 years ago, so to pursue my ADN would mean I'd have to take them all over again before I can even start the nursing classes.

Best of luck whichever path you choose-either way, you're a nurse!

I called admissions today and found out that my letter was actually lost in the mail. Originally she thought I didn't received it because it was addressed incorrectly but she called me back to say it had been sent last week. She put another one in the mail today so I should get it soon.

I am also excited about Wake Tech's program. I did want to do the study abroad though. As Nic said, everything happens for a reason! I'll still let you guys know when I get my letter.

:yeah:

But, what was the verdict??? Do you have any idea? If you don't know, I'm keeping my fingers crossed you receive the word you're looking for, NYCGyrl! That word being, "Congratulations!"

I have no idea! When we first spoke she said she was going to try to get permission to email my letter to me. When we spoke later she said she couldn't but she was sending another one.

NYCGyrl- I can't believe they won't tell you! I am glad you have another good program to focus on in the meantime...my goodness!

Maybe there will be a tiny bit of movement on the waitlist next week since today was the respond-by date?
