Need advice! Transferring from MI and not familiar with schools.

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hello all! I am currently attending a community college in Michigan and I'm looking into getting into a nursing school in North Carolina or South Carolina. :) Nursing programs are brutally hard to get into and I messed up my GPA a bit so it's impossible for me to get into any schools.. :crying2: It's currently at a 3.1, but that's with all of my classes I have taken throughout the years and some do not apply to nursing at all. I need advice as to what programs don't take GPA as high into consideration as other aspects (maybe performace tests/ volunteer work instead?) or any schools that you think I would have a good chance at getting into. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!! :D

Where are you looking in NC? I moved in the middle of taking my prereqs and was able to get into my first choice school on my first shot. My school goes by a point system and what grades you got in the classes that apply to the nursing program rather than a GPA.

What school did you attend? I have friends who live in Raileigh, NC but I am willing to go anywhere in the two states. My cousin and I are having the same issues up here in Michigan and would like to move out of state.

All schools care about GPA. In the "points based system" you will receive more points for higher GPA in the actual Nursing pre req's, so GPA does actually matter.

If you do not have at least a B in the Nursing pre req's, you will be at a disadvantage.

With that being said, consider that almost every Nursing program looks at only the Nursing pre req's. That History class you made a C in? No so important. A&P, micro, sciences, VERY important.

I go to Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, NC (about 2 hours south of Raleigh) and I love it! :D

And yes, technically the GPA in specific classes does count (for example you get more points for an A in A&P than a C). Here's the site for my school's program if you want the info for the program: http://cfcc.edu/adn/

Good luck to you!
