Hi there-

My name is Sandy and I am applying to the Duke ABSN for Spring 2011, just wondering if there is anyone else out there applying? Only 2 months till the deadline and I am trying to get my personal statement finished, as well as spiffy up my resume!

I think I am anxious already! This may be a long ride!

Anyway....a little about me...

I have a BS in Environmental Management with a 3.73 GPA, didn't take the GRE, still working on the prerequisites but so far have a 4.0 in those classes.

I spent 10 years in the Navy, working as an aviation electronics technician and supervisor. Also did hazardous material control and other environmental stuff for my command. I also taught CPR for 5 or so years, as well as blood drive coordination. I was able to travel to a lot of neat places, and some that weren't! All-in-all it was a great experience for me. After leaving the military in late 2007, I worked for a semi-conductor company in RTP, doing research and development (not my favorite job). So, I decided to go to school for massage therapy, and I'm now a licensed therapist. So, that makes me something like 34 years young.

So, here I am....wanting to pursue a dream that I have had for long time! Thankfully I have the world's greatest husband! He is my rock and has encouraged me to take this leap! So let's do this!

I'm waiting for you! Hopefully someone will be here soon to go crazy in anticipation with me! :)

They said that the committee is meeting the week of the 16th. I'm hoping that means we will hear sometime Monday- Friday. Oh dear. I wonder if we all find out at the same time...

oh dang...they are meeting next week?

I thought they were meeting this week....

I guess we have to wait longer.... =(

I think someone said earlier that they were meeting the week of the 9th-13th? I was just hoping it would be early this week....perhaps I shall call M tomorrow... I need to ask about transcripts for the classes I just finished anyway :D

Yogi, did you really hear that they are meeting NEXT week??

I am not sure why I received the email, It was about an extension for financial aid essays and fafsa docs.

"if you would like to have your financial aid award information before you have to accept your admission offer, you will need to submit your SON Financial Aid application and FAFSA (Duke SON code E00162) within 1 week of receiving the offer for admission. As long as we receive your SON Financial Aid application and FAFSA within that week, we will have your financial aid award information to you at least 1 week before you have to accept admission."

Well, the last group was there on Friday so they couldn't possibly meet and review everyone until Monday or Tuesday. Unless, they just stayed there all weekend :D Also, interesting fact.... my interviewer told me that they often don't know who actually got accepted until they see them at orientation. I think they are like objective surveyors or maybe they give their opinions, but don't participate in the end process of putting everything together piece by piece.

AHHH! I'm so excited I can't stand it! Good luck to everyone! May we all have the patience to last until we hear the decisions. Serenity Now! (anyone? ;))

I'm pretty sure they said they were meeting this week (9-13) and we would hear starting next week... I wrote it down and circled it a bunch of times on my notepad.

Oh....I don't know why the 16th is stuck in my head. Don't mind me, I'm moving right now and have all my dates confused. Sorry guys.

I was reading the thread for the last class (Fall 2010), and it sounds like they all found out together on the Monday, February 15th. Since their last interview group was scheduled for Friday, February 5th, if they do it the same way this cycle then we should find out on Monday, August 16th (i.e. the Monday after the Friday after the last interview :)). And of course, I'm still going to be driving myself crazy checking every day between now and then anyway. Sigh...this will be a LOOOOOOONG week. :rolleyes:

Is anyone planning on completing a NP MSN after the BSN??

Painted: I'm thinking about CRNA, or possibly (but less likely) peds critical care NP or peds hem/onc NP...how 'bout yourself?

Painted- I plan on starting my NP as soon as possible, not sure if I will go directly into it, but I'd like to within a year. Right now I'm thinking Oncology, but I want to explore as much as can throughout the program, so we will see...What are you thinking of doing?

What are everyone's nursing interests? Maybe some chit-chat will help us pass the time! :)

Right now I'm leaning towards oncology, but I also have an interest in orthopedics and geriatrics. There are just so many possibilities in nursing! One of the things I absolutely love about the field!
