Nicu references

I am starting a new graduate position in the NICU in August and have seen a lot of posts while researching references for new graduates. I was wondering if any of you know if Merenstein &Gardner's 8th editions has many changes from the 7th edition since there is a significant price gap. Normally id automatically go with the older edition but they were released 4 years apart. I want to get a leg up and learn as much as I can before I start so any other advice or material suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have the last edition, but I can't really answer your question. Maybe prmenrs is around somewhere... She (I'm assuming) should know.

I preordered the new edition, and I'm not even working! Ok, I'm a nerd. I'd get the new one if I were you. Don't forget to take it off your taxes!! Then, I would also subscribe to Neonatal Network or some other professional journal. The journal will always give you more current information than a book (as you probably know), but Merenstein gives you the basics.

The basics won't change and the finer points you probably won't need to understand for the first few years anyway, so I think the old edition is perfectly fine. I actually didn't like Merenstein book, the Verklan core curriculum book is better laid out. But a good quick reference on pathophysiology and troubleshooting, I'd recommend Manual of Neonatal Care by Cloherty. It's easier on the eyes, smaller, and much more readable than the other books, IMO.
