New Grad Starting NICU Position - So excited!

Specialties NICU

Published

So I graduated July 30 and took my NCLEX Sept 24. After applying for 30+ positions in all of the different areas of Women and Children Services (and scoring only 2 interviews), I am happy to say I was just offered a FT NICU position at my DREAMMMM hospital. All I have to do is pass the drug test & physical, then it's time for paperwork! I am seriously so stoked.

My original graduation date was in May, but it was pushed back because I couldn't pass the Hesi Exit Exam. I never thought I would survive and it seemed like nothing was every going to go my way. Glad I was wrong!

Start date is Nov 2. This is all so surreal:yeah:

I'm not really posting this to ask any questions, I just wanted to share my good news haha. But if you have any words of wisdom, feel free to chime in ;)

Thanks everyone! I completed 4 months of orientation and have been on my own since April. I love it and see myself here for many years!

Specializes in NICU.

So good to hear! I started my first nursing job in a Level IV NICU about a month ago, but am just now getting ready to work my first patient care shift on Sunday. I'm thrilled and terrified and everything in between, but it's so nice to read about other people who've made it through these crazy times of orientation :)

Specializes in Med Surg/Ortho.

I love hearing stories like this. NICU is my dream job (at least for now, I haven't started school yet). It is the reason I am going to nursing school. I am finally starting my program this Monday and I am so excited. I really hope to have some experience during school in the NICU to find out if it really is for me.

Hi babyrnhlw,

I graduate in May 2018 and NICU is my dream job! I know you posted this more than 2 years ago, but I decided to give this a shot. If you don't mind me asking, what hospital hired you as a new grad?

Thanks!
