My 1st NICU interview!!!!

Specialties NICU

Published

Hi! I will be graduating in August (accelerated BSN program). I have just scheduled an interview for an RN position in the NICU in an awesome hospital. It's in 2 weeks and it will be my first interview for an RN position. What terrifies me is that this is the unit and hospital I want to work at and with it being my first interview, I'm afraid I'm going to mess something up.

I've looked through the forums and know that there have been some questions answered about interviews, but I'm looking for some advice on what to expect. What kinds of questions might I be asked?

:lol2: NICU is where I want to be....this is why I went back to school to be a nurse. I have a bachelors already in another field - but couldn't find a job in that field. I refuse to work in another unit besides NICU! I want to show the Nurse Manager that although I don't have any experience in the NICU that I am determined, hard-working, love to learn and will make a good addition to their team (without looking too desperate!!!!). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I know this thread is a bit old, but I'm very curious which hospital you chose and how you're liking it. I was reading through the thread and got hooked on it just like a movie!. I want to know how it ends!! hehehe :D

Congratulations! (even though it is a bit late)

Um ... so what? People can always come back.

...because it's annoying for people to dig up 2 year old threads to wish somebody well who probably won't see it :)

Ok, now. Play nice.

I know this thread is a good 2 years old, but I just hope the job market has not been hit too harshly as I am also a second degree student wanting to work in the nicu, and the nicu alone!!! I hope the nurse managers will be as open of new nurse graduates when i start looking for jobs in a year (yikes!) and that i get as much luck as the OP did :-D

Hi guys! I am responding!!

Sorry I never updated. I took the 2nd job in Cincinnati at a big NICU and it was the BEST decision i have ever made! It will be 2 years this fall and i learn more and more each day. I am so glad I chose this hospital...I dont think i would be where i am today if i chose a different job.

Good luck to all you future NICU nurses!!

Being relatively close to Cincinatti, Im wondering if you're hospital's NICU will hire new GNs in terms of the downfall economy?

I work at Good Samaritan Hospital. When I was hired, they were hiring new grads but that was with the old manager. Now we have a new manager and I have heard rumors that they aren't hiring new grads, but I am not sure if that's the case. I know we are hiring now. I would just look online to see what the job description says. I think the website is trihealth.com.
