Question for the experienced nurses out there. If during a procedure to close the PDA in a 27 week old premie, if the temp elevates to 106 degrees F for 15 minutes before found (d/t a dysfunction in the temp monitor), what are the implications for brain damage? This is a real life situation in my family and being a nursing student I want to be able to understand the extent of possible brain function complications. Any info the experienced neuro or NICU nurses can give me would be very appriciated.

    Thank you!

  4. Yikes...that sort of rapid shift would (among other things of course) change the acid/base balance super quickly, which is not good for the brain. I have no idea how this would be affected long-term though...

We wish you all the best regarding the new baby in your family. Your post raises medical/legal issues we cannot address on the Bulletin Board. Therefore, I need to close this thread.

I know that you posted the same question in the Pediatric Forum. That thread has been removed from the board.
