  1. Brain damage and hyperthermia

    Question for the experienced nurses out there. If during a procedure to close the PDA in a 27 week old premie, if the temp elevates to 106 degrees F for 15 minutes before found (d/t a dysfunction in the temp monitor), what are the implications for brain damage? This is a real life situation in my family and being a nursing student I want to be able to understand the extent of possible brain function complications. Any info the experienced neuro or NICU nurses can give me would be very appriciated. Thank you!
