Best way to get into NICU?

Specialties NICU

Hey guys,

So I'm a new BSN RN who currently works in an adult ICU at a level I Trauma Center.

I'm quickly realizing that the adult world isn't my cup of tea. I wanted to work in the NICU ever since starting nursing school, but jobs are hard to come by for new grads so I took what I could get, and was thankful it was at least critical care.

My question is, what can I do in order to make myself more marketable for a NICU position? There's an opening for one at my facility and the listing says NRP and STABLE are highly preferred, but not required. Would it behoove me to go ahead and get certified in those? Or will it not be much benefit, since I won't actually be using the skills until I get into the NICU?

Thanks I advance!

I don't know about those 2 specific certifications, but most require a certain amount of time in the area of certification. If this is not the case for these and you can afford them/have the time to study, go for it! Good luck with whatever you decide.
