I have started working in a new unit that has started administering lactobacillus tid to our babies born

I usually pull out the plunger from a 10cc syringe, drop in the lactobacillus (using my thumb to plug the opening at the tip), then draw back 5cc of hot water, shake it up and voila! I never have a problem, not even with the tiny el cheapo NG tubes. I also push it slowly directly through the NG or GT, I don't mix it with the feed.

PS is the lactobacillus being used a NEC prophylaxis?

Thanks for the reply - I will definitely try that next time I have to administer. And yes, we are using for NEC prophylaxis. :)

You should probably be checking with your pharmacy/dietician on what they want you to do with it. 5ml of fluid may not be a good idea for some kids.

True, BittyBaby. We only have older, healthier babies without any kind of immunodeficiency on the lactobacillus.
