Travel nursing in NYC

U.S.A. New York

Hello all-

I'm looking to start travel nursing in NYC. Are there any travel nurses out there in NYC? If so, what company do you use? ANY info about companies, hospitals, average RN pay, housing, etc. would be very helpful! Thanks so much!

hey jellie,

I too am interested in traveling to NY for work. I'm in discussion with several travel agencies. It seems EVERYONE wants to go to NYC. I was told by one company that assignments in NYC go fast. I'm still hoping to find one that will get me there. If you find anything (or if I do) let me know.

The best advice I can offer you now its get your license in NY now!

The state of NY is very slow at processing app's it takes the full 8 weeks or more. This I have been told by several people. And if you find an assignment that is open quick you will need to have your license first before they will consider you.

Get your foot in the door and open up talks with the travel agencies you arent obligated to anything until you sign that contract.

Good luck

Please put Manhattan or Queens or the Bronx or York in under "search". There are several current threads on this topic.

Thanks for the advice on the license..I didn't know it would be that long!

My problem is that some companies won't even accept my application yet because I don't have enough experience. I'll have a year when I want to move, but now I just have 7 months. So..I'm starting to lean away from travel b/c I've read that it's good to have 2 years experience. I'm still looking though.

Thanks again!

I am a travel nurse in NYC. I live on the NYC/NJ border and do local travel through Access Nursing Services. They require that you have a year or two of previous experience and a NY license. They are a great company if you're looking in the NYC area. I pass on the housing stipend and make 45-50/hr. If you decide to take the stipend, the pay I think is $26/hr with 3K a month tax free for an apt. You can always rent in NJ (which is so much cheaper and closer than any borough) and keep the rest of the money. Not a bad deal if you ask me!

Peace,

I'm also interested in doing Traveling Nursing in NYC or NJ. Do they hire LPN's, and what type of med test did you have to take?

Peace

I was looking at Access' webpage. Do you have to pay for a drug screen on your own?

I've been a nurse just under 2 years. I'm a bit nervous about travel, but I"m also nervous about my current situation.

I am finishing up my first assignment in NYC. I loved it so much here that I am staying for another at a different facility.

I do not pay for my drug screens. They are covered through my agency. Traveling is scary but its so much fun too.

Where are you looking to go?

Whats wrong with your current situation?

I'm curious. If you find your own housing and take the stipend or whatever it's referred to, do you have to keep receipts from a landlord? Can utilities be included, would anyone know?

Thanks

the stipend is just a set amount of money they will give you instead of providing your housing for you. what you do with it is your prerogative. where or not you are taxed on that money at the end of the year is a whole different story and another large debate. if you live in the area already and for other reasons you want to take the stipend. your company finding your housing for you is a luxury you are paying for. usually finding your own housing is cheaper but means allot more foot work and hassle for you.

if you are traveling with a friend it is better one takes the cash and the other takes the house. everyone wins when you split the money!
