Transferring to Lehman College for BSN... any "hidden" math classes?

U.S.A. New York

I'm currently attending Bronx Community College for my ASN, then I'm going to transfer to Lehman for the BSN. My question pertains to CUNY's skills assessment test in mathematics which all CUNY schools require... I took the remedial for M1 (pre algebra) and passed with an 84. I'm currently taking the remedial for M2 (algebra). As I understand correctly, Lehman's minimum score requirement for this test is 45. However, someone told me that 45 is not enough and they will make me take classes like College Algebra, and other things, and that I should try to get over a score of 60 to be exempt from any "hidden" math courses there.

I don't know about that program.

But I do know that the vast majority of Nursing programs, require math for dose calculations in Pharmacology, and then often again in the nursing courses themselves. Many require passage of the tests with 90-100% accuracy, depending on the school. And passing your prerequisite math classes DOES NOT exempt you from future drug calculation tests that are an integral part of many of the nursing courses, or pharmacology.

Just a head's up.

Caroladybelle is correct. You will not avoid more math in a BSN program, even if there are no official "math" classes it will be a component of many of the other nursing courses you will have to take. In my BSN program there was at least one math calc test per semester and we had to get 100% (although if we failed one we could take another test and try again before they failed us out of the program). They are not kidding around with the math in nursing. You need to know what you are doing so you had better get a good understanding of it now while you have the head's up.

Went to a CUNY school and though it was years ago can tell you often even well meaning persons give false information. In order to have the correct information seek out the website for your particular or the school you wish to attend and look up the information. You can also read the course catalog and or visit the school and seek information directly from admissions, Registrar's Office, and or the department head in question. Make sure to put your query plainly and clearly with a return response the same.

As for "hidden" math classes there isn't any such thing.

Per the links posted above you can see what Lehman's requirements are for transfer students coming from community colleges and the math score is clearly stated at "45".

Just glanced through Lehman's NP website and the only "hidden" (if you could call it that) part of the program is the requirement that one have passed the math placement exams in order to take general chemistry. That is pretty normal as a working knowledge of algebra is essential for chemistry.
