Suffolk Community College Fall 2015 applicants

U.S.A. New York

I did not see a thread for the fall 2015 semester at Suffolk. I guess the biggest news this year is the new requirement of the TEAS V test. There was no mention of it at the last nursing information meeting last spring, but luckily I caught the information early in the fall and had plenty of time to study. Unfortunately, it seems like many people in my AP2 class were not so lucky; one person just found out monday and now has two weeks to take the test.

I'm hoping we can share some info in this thread. When I went to the nursing information seminar in September, they said they that you had to score at least proficient on the test in order to be considered. My lab partner went to one last week and they told her that the TEAS score would now weigh more heavily than your GPA. For me this poses an interesting situation. My pre req grades are:

Eng- A

Psych- A

AP1-A

AP2- final on monday but should be an A

My score on the teas- 74% proficient.

I was always told through information seminars (I went to a ton...) that your GPA was most important. I worked hard and at the beginning of this semester was very excited that my GPA would make my chances of getting in very high...but if this info about the TEAS taking presidence over your GPA, all that hard work may have been for nothing. But I think we all know how notorious this school can be with misinformation.

What have you heard?

Hi and welcome to AN, the largest peer to peer nursing network!

While I can't answer your specific questions, this is a busy forum and someone will be along shortly.

I too just found out about the TEAs requirement, and I had only 2 weeks to take the exam. I took it this morning, in the middle of my finals week at Stony Brook and I did okay but not great. I got a 78..I have A's in all the prerequisites and numerous other science related courses as well. My gpa at suffolk is 3.9 and my gpa at Stony is 3.57 so I am a little concerned that my TEAs score is too low and is going to out shadow my gpa. Have you heard anything else about this?

It sounds like we are in the same boat. I have heard from a friend that a score in the mid-70's is the most common, not sure how true that is. I am very dissapointed in my score

you both have good grades, you are probably going to be accepted.

my grades are:

A&P I - A

A&P II - C+

PSY - B+

ENG - B

MICRO - B

TEAS - 68% PROF

Thank goodness I knew about the TEAS and had enough time to take it. My grades are:

A&P I - B+

A&P II - A

PSYCH - B-

ENG - A

MICRO - taking Spring '15

TEAS 86 % Advanced

I applied to both the Ammerman Day and the Grant Day. I'm applying to SB also :). Hope I get in to at least one program, SB is my first choice though. Graduated from there in May with my BSHS.

Hi all! I just decided to apply to Suffolk. I received my A.A.S. there back in 2006. My grades are:

A&P I - A

A&P II - A

Psych - A

English - A (also received a B.A. in English from Dowling)

Micro - A

TEAS - 78% proficient. I got 99% on both English portions.

Good luck to everyone! I'm trying to get in to any program possible (just withdrew from a very expensive private school that was NOT worth the money). I know Suffolk has a fantastic nursing program! Applying to both Grant and Ammerman day.

Im not applying for 2015 just starting the journey but am probably going to do my prereqs at Suffolk and apply there down the road...did you guys need to take chemistry as a prereq to AP1 and II? And for those with previous college degree did you need to repeat English? I didn't take any science in college so Im thinking I need:

Chem

AP I

AP II

Micro

Psych

Does that sound right? For Suffolk and SBU? Thanks. Good luck to you guys! I think this is goign to take me a loooong time!! :)

Sorry for the late reply. That looks like the right path to me, chem is required before taking AP which is a pain. I took chem, english and psych all in the same semester (although it sounds like you won't have to take english). I took AP by themselves to give myself all the time I needed to concentrate on them. You could take AP1 over the summer than AP2 in the fall and apply. I am similar to you, no science background. Prepare to commit to the courses and really put the time in studying. I am in Micro right now and absolutely hate it, I am so anxious about whether or not I will get into the program I a having a lot of trouble focusing on this class.

Hi everybody, I applied to SCCC day program at Ammerman. My grades are:Eng-B+

Psy B+

Anp1-A

Anp2- A

Micro-A

I took the TEAS and got 93 overall score-exemplary. I took English and psychology more than ten yrs ago- my freshman year in college, and the sciences past three semesters. So I'm hoping they will look at the sciences a bit more. I guess we will see soon enough.

At info session I attended they weren't very forthcoming with any information regarding the importance of TEAS vs GPA. Maybe they are just trying to figure it out themselves, as it's the first year they actually require it for admission.

I went to a nursing seminar last month. The advisor to told me that the teas are going to be weighed heavier than the GPA, however, since this is the first year that they are requiring it and they only made the announcement in September, some students did not enough time to study. Do to this she said that this is the first time they have a lower then usual enrollment of eligible students. I told her I was concerned since I had a 4.0 in my pre-reqs but only scored a 72 in my teas. She advised me I shouldn't be worried, so hopefully that's a good thing. I guess we will see next month. Good luck to everyone.

I too applied and can't wait to find out! The wait is killing me!! As I'm sure it is killing all of you!!
