U.S.A. New York

I'm surprised a thread for the upcoming class of 2014 has not been created yet (or has it). Well here it is!!! Good luck to all :p

i REALLY hope they stay true to their words. otherwise, they'll be receiving a lot of phone calls/emails from jan 14th and on lols. good luck guys! jan 7th is like 2 weeks away, but try to keep your mind occupied - its the holiday season! ^_^ crossing my fingers!!

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.
They actually sent an email today saying they will mail decisions on January 7th and to call them on January 14th of we haven't received it :). Looks like they've changed! I can't believe it's so soon!!

Did you receive an email like that before Paco?

Not one exactly like that, but similar in content quoting an "around" date that they never kept. I'm actually curious!

:( that sucks. Well actually thanks for letting us know. This way we won't get our hopes up too high :).

This is a random question but what's the lowest cum GPA you've seen someone get accepted with? I unfortunately didn't do well in undergrad so I don't really think I have a chance here.

Paco-RN will probably tell you something about how GPA isnt all that the admissions people are looking at. With any school, they look at the applicant as a whole, so they take into account recommendation letters, your personal statement, extracurriculars, etc. There's more to an applicant than just #s, so dont doubt yourself. You have just as much of a chance as anyone else who applied!! :)

Spritedkidd knows me all too well :)

But that's correct, the number really does not matter 100% (except of course that it should be the minimum they state on the website, which I think is 2.8 overall). I don't recall calculating my final cum, but I know I had like a 3.23 in my first bachelors (a tad higher if you factor in my prereqs later on). One of my classmates had a 3.1 I think but I am not completely sure. However, the average reportedly for those accepted in my class was about 3.6, which means there are many below and above that number. There were some classmates of mine that got C's in some of their prereqs (especially micro) and still got in, so don't get bummed about a low GPA or anything less than an A (as long as it was at or above a C). I have to be honest, there were a couple of classmates (though a very few) that I cannot ever figure out how they were accepted into an accelerated program like Stony Brook (and that's all I am going to say about that ... :p)

That said, clearly it's more than just GPA!

@Paco-RN, its because ive read the past threads from previous years and i know a lot of people asked you about the importance of GPA and you always mentioned that lols.

but in all honesty, GoVeg, i dont think you should stress about it (too much), especially since: 1) you already submitted your application, 2) we have no way of knowing how they make their admissions decisions (like how they rank GPA against other application factors), and 3) you cant do anything about it at this point. just enjoy the holiday season and try to keep yourself occupied! before you know it, you'll receive that email that says you got accepted ^_^

ITS ALMOST CHRISTMAS! ask santa for an acceptance! i know i am ;)

I hope we all get a late Christmas gift this year. I too, applied for the accelerated program. I'm hoping to hear good news. I'm so ready to just start my nursing career!!

Thanks Paco and Spirited kid. That makes me feel a lot better :). And yes, no need to stress and worry too much now! Though I somehow can't help a little bit of stressing. Well, good luck to all of us!

Merry Christmas! May all our nursing school dreams come true!!

5 days left..... It's going to be a long week.

I was just coming here to say that! Time is going so slow! I will actually be taking the TEAS test for another school this Saturday so at least my anticipation is diffused...makes it a little bit easier :). I am really hoping though that Paco's prediction will be wrong and SB will have turned over a new leaf :) We'll just have to wait and see though. If not, there will definitely be some ranting on here! ;)

Good luck everyone!! :)
