I remember one of you saying that some people in the program had no hospital experience going into the program. I have been volunteering at a local hospital for a few months but feel as if I havent taken away much from the experience. I dont know much, if any, of the medical lingo. From your experience, will this be a major issue? I am contemplating taking a medical terminology couse because I am so worried I wil be lightyears behind my fellow classmated who are CNAs or LPNs.
Your input is much appreciated!

wow thats an awesome gpa haha, congrats on getting in, im jealous! i do not have the best undergrad gpa (a 2.8 from stony brook in political science) but so far i have a 4.0 in all my science prereqs and my lowest prereq so far is a B (psychology and statistics). I still have to take A&P2 and micro but i will be finished with everything by august. I am going to apply to the two year program as well. Honestly, when i was in college at SBU i was not as mature as I am now and probably could have done a lot better then a 2.8. it sucks because i wish i knew i wanted to pursue nursing 5 years ago but I can't change the past just have to make these next few months count and get all a's!

You have nothing to worry about. Seriously, save your money on that medical terminology course and buy yourself a nice Littmann stethoscope and a cool pair of white kicks for clinical

Hey everyone!
Anyone know about how long before they start letting people know if they got in from the waiting list? (i read they tell you up to the last min, but i was curious what their history was of when they first started letting people know) im itching to know if i'll be joining u guys!!!!!
Hey Yankees, I had a similar situation to you graduating from stony brook in 2005 with a not so good GPA (below a 3.0 also). Focus on those last 2 pre reqs, start thinking from now who would write you the best letters and possibly let you read them before submitting them lol, and definitely as others have said pour your heart out on your essay.. Don't just say you like to help people because they probably get 700 essays saying that. I spoke about what made me think abt a change in career, and why nursing was the career path that won that race for me. Do address how you believe you are in a different mental state now than you were 5 yrs ago, so low grades will not be the norm, and also say where you want nursing to take you career wise. (They like to know you're thinking of continuing your education, not just stopping at a bachelors). It can be done with less than perfect grades, I'm living proof lol.. Good luck!
wow thats great news lol.. that gives me a lot of hope. i am already working on a killer personal statement! how important would you say volunteering is at like a local hospital or youth center or something? i really would like to start doing that but with working full time and going to school at night, its so hard to find extra time! do you think having a lot of volunteer experience is a necessity? i volunteer with my coworkers some times but never in a hospital yet.
thanks!
