NYU ABSN Fall 2015

U.S.A. New York

Anyone planning to apply to NYU ABSN program for fall 2015. Since I'm in CA, there's no way I could attend the information session. What important things were mentioned at the information session?

@danrutgers. I am 24 too, but i've been taking prerequisite courses ever since I graduated haha. Have you been guaranteed acceptance to the ABSN program? I'm also considering applying to Rutgers' ABSN program. Do you know how they actually convert quarter to semester units? I might have one outstanding chem class. Feel free to PM me.

@danrutgers & @lagirl_1989 -- I feel your pain! I've been taking prereqs since I graduated from college, too!

@danrutgers --- I was thinking about taking my remaining prerequisite classes at NYU, but I work full-time, and as far as I could tell they didn't offer night classes. Are you still planning on working while finishing classes at NYU? Congrats, by the way!

@lagirl_1989 yes I have been accepted and am finishing up my last 2 pre-reqs at NYU and starting the nursing sequence fall 2015. What do you mean quarter to semester units?

@gilly00 Even though most are during the day some are at night like my nutrition and health class is at 5pm at NYU but you are right that most are offered during the day. As for working I am still going to work, I moved my hours at work to accommodate taking Gen Chem and A&P II this semester so right now I am only committed to working every other weekend which is more than doable to work and finish my pre-reqs and of course I will pick up shifts if the coursework isn't too bad. As far as working when i start the nursing sequence in the fall there is no possible way I am going to be able to work. In the fall I am moving into the city and from what I hear about the nursing program is that there is a lot of assignments, exams, quizzes, and simulation practicals that take place. When I met with my NYU nursing advisor she said she highly recommends you don't work during the time you are in the program. She said the highest drop out rates come from those students who attempt to work and take this rigorous program. I hope this helps, if you have any other questions let me know!

@danrutgers thanks so much! That's super helpful info. Best of luck with the two remaining classes, and congrats again!!

@danrutgers my school is on a quarter system and other schools transfer the credit differently. did you apply to their ABSN program? I do not know if my chem classes fulfill their requirements!

@la_girl1989 yes i applied as a second degree non-accelerated student. I have my BA from Rutgers University and starting at NYU in the spring for micro and nutrition to finish up the pre-reqs. In the fall is when I start the actual nursing sequence. As far as the semester credits are concerned I would call the admissions office and ask. Ask the nursing advising office to take a look into your chem class. Once you accept your admission to NYU if there are any pre-reqs you need to take because they were not fulfilled or it was not the right class they will email you and tell you which courses need to be taken before you can start the nursing sequence. Hope this helps!

Hey!

I applied in early October for the Fall 2015 ABSN! I was recently wait-listed to another program in NYC so I'm eager to know whether or not I'm accepted into the program at NYU. After reading previous threads I got bummed because they didn't find out till APRIL! waiting that long is going to give me crazy anxiety lol

What other programs have everyone applied to? I applied to Columbia, NYU, Pace (NYC campus) and Downstate.

xo

hi futurenurse912! looks like almost everyone is from the East Coast. I'm from LA haha.

I know that ABSN programs are allowed to study abroad, but does the program discourage their students from doing so?

I know both NYU and Columbia have opportunities for their students to do some of their nursing classes abroad. They totally encourage it!!

just submitted mine but noticed there was a small spelling error! argh! i emailed them and hopefully they can replace the file. Happy holidays!

@lagirl_1989 hey when i applied to NYU I had a similar situation. When I applied initially i was scheduled to take Nutrition and A&P II and then decided I was going to take Chemistry instead so my pre-req worksheet wasn't filled out correctly. All I have to say is Luis in admissions is amazing! He will help you with everything and anything I would email him and he would answer me by the next day at the latest. Especially since NYU lost my letter of recommendation several times, he was always willing to look to see if it was received.

@danrutgers, could you please PM me his email address? Thanks!
