omg! csi was the program i attended, though it was awhile ago, when the campus was still in sunnyside off, the expressway.

does professor carlton still teach a&p?

for nursing only names i remember are professors, macdonald, murray, and olsen (mrs. olsen writes books for med/dose calc).

cannot believe students are now required to take the nln (and or ) have sat scores, aside from the pre-nursing sequence. in my day it was just the pre-nursing sequence completed with a gpa of 2.5 or greater, and one could be admitted. yes, some with gpas of

csi's program has come along way, believe it or not there was a time when hospitals weren't keen on their grads as their nys board passing rate was not that great. but times have changed, and according to the advance, csi's nursing program is not only highly regarded, but highly sought after as well.

best of luck!

As one who attended a CUNY nursing program (back in the 1980's but still) am here to give some old school insight.

By law or rule (not sure which), anyone with a NYC high school diploma is automatically accepted into CUNY. The only thing that determines where one goes, that is a four year college (Hunter, City, Brooklyn maybe now parts of CSI), is your high school average.

In my day one had to have about a 80%, to make one of the four year colleges, all others went to one of the community colleges. They used to tell you that one could attend a community college for a year or so, bring up one's GPA and attempt to transfer to a four year CUNY school.

Because CUNY colleges must take "all" as it were, they face a problem when it comes to certian programs such as nursing. In may day the College of Staten Island, like most other CUNY 2 year nursing programs, only required one take the pre-nursing sequence, and have a 2.5 GPA to apply for admission. One got in or not, based upon the number of applicants versus open slots, and the GPAs of those applicants. So if there were say 40 slots, and 20 students applied for admission to that semester's class, then all got in, provided they met the pre-nursing and other requirements. This system, along with a few other things lead to widely varying pass rates for the NYS boards, and later the NCLEX. Am here to tell you and the information is available elsewhere that there was a time when Meger Evers, Kingsborough and Manhattan Community College had really LOW board passing rates. Since CUNY college nursing programs cannot control whom is admitted into the college, they a have begun to focus attention on bringing up standards of those within the program.

Now as with priviate and other nursing programs, you see much higher grades required for retention and graduation, as well as various tests. In short these CUNY nursing programs seek to boost their board passing rates by eliminating those whom statistically are not likely to pass the NCLEX. Better to have only 18 graduate nurses take the NCLEX and nearly all pass, rather than 40 and only ten pass.

well i'm looking into bronx cc, hostos college, and dorothea hopfer. how are you liking it so far?

which prereqs must you take?

:)

Recently, I just got into Medgar Evers College for the Fall 2010 semester. Been planning ahead and getting all my documents together to be readily handed in. Hopefully it will be in the new glass building they just built this semester! Anyone else made it to this fall?

congrats in getting accepted!!!! will u be in the nursing program?

Yups! :) Starting this Aug 26th, I start my first day of classes. Hopefully it'll be in the new building they just built. Are you in the program as well? I would like to know a little about the program and what to expect! I'm so excited and nervous at the same time.

YEA!!!so ull be a first year!!!! don't worry we will definitely tell u what to expect and u guys will have mentors available from us the second years!!see u soon...start reading from ur books

Yea!! I'm super excited! Do you know which books are needed? They are going to tell us on the first day of class, but it would be nice to have a head start! I currently have Saunders. Can you recommend me some books to use so I can pass with flying colors? Thanks! Also, would you happen to know what color scrub we need? Is it royal blue or light blue?

they should have given u ur booklist already, i cant remember offhand what the books are but one of them should be a nursing fundamentals, and we wear uniforms not scrubs that also should have been given to u...not the uniforms but where to purchase them. All of these should have been in ur acceptance package into the nursing program... maybe they are doin it different this year.

Yea. I'm planning on going to the place to buy the uniforms next week. Thought it would be cheaper to order it online. I guess there's a specific type of uniform we need to get then. I was told I was accepted into the RN program late because someone dropped out so I am very lucky. Maybe they didn't give me the book list cause that's the only thing I'm missing. Did my cpr certification already and everything else is in check. Are there any good studying guides or NCLEX review books that would help? Let me know thanks!

saunders and kaplan are good, as well as mosby... but any nclex review book is always helpful...send me ur name so i know who to look out for in a couple weeks..
