Mount-Sinai Beth Israel Brooklyn - Pre-Interview Pharm Exam. Assistance Needed!

Hello All,

I received a call today from Mount Sinai Beth Israel in Brooklyn today regarding a possible interview. In order to qualify for the interview I would first need to take and pass an exam that is composed of 3 key parts: 1) Medication dosage calculation, 2) General Principals/standards/guidelines prior to giving medication, 3) Lastly, abundance of the exam is composed of medications given in a common med-surg setting. (this section includes effects/side effects, nursing action for side effects, actions of meds, routes of administration, special issues surrounding administration timing, drug interactions, and toxicity issues. It will also include knowledge on whether the particular drug is taken with/without food, insulin peak times, actions times, and management of hypoglycemia.

Upon receiving the 'study package' it had only noted a list shy of ~170 medications in its respective category (for example Fluroquinolones: 1) Ciprofloxacin and 2) nalidxic acid) with no additional information (that is needed as listed above in #3) in the study package regarding the medication aside from its name itself.

In order to pass in this exam, I will need to score at least a 43/60 questions correctly to be eligible for an interview.

Has anyone here have any insight or any additional information regarding this Exam and will kindly assist me through this process?

I have 2 years experience in wound care and I applied online.

Study the most common ones in each category. Also each category of meds have things that make them similar so note any exception to the meds in each category. Use the Pharmacology section in your NCLEX study book (if you still have it). Where i was hired KCH of NYC HHC we had to pass with a 90% (45 correct out of 50) and the exam had content just like what you describe above. However KCH did not give any type of study guide...a day after my interview the Assistant Director of nursing called me and told me to take the pharmacology exam in a week. That was it. I studied the Pharmacology section of the NCLEX review book I had and It worked.
