LPN's in NYC - RN schools, etc

Hi all-

I finish LPN school in October (I live in Florida right now) I would like to finish school and move to the city to pursue my RN. I have several questions.

#1- Is it doable financially to live and work as an LPN in NYC? I am single. What is the going rate for a new grad LPN?

#2- what are some of the better RN schools? I have recieved liturature from Phillips-Beth Israel and Helene Fuld (I like the idea of a hospital based program but I am open to anything) Any input on these schools or others?

#3-Who hires LPN's up there other than LTC? I work for the VA right now as a student nurse tech and I may stay with them and transfer to get myself up there but I would like to see what else is available.

I am really set on moving up there it is one of my dreams just to say I did it! While I am young and carefree I figure why not??!?!?!? Anyway any help would be appreciated!

We have a VA hospital in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn. They would be delighted to have you. You would, of course, have to apply to Albany for reciprocity (maybe not since it is Federal).

Helene Fuld is located on 120th Street in Manhattan. They will give you credit for LPN, and at the end of one year, you would recieve an associate degree and be allowed to sit for RN boards.
