First Semester of Adelphi?

I was recently accepted to Adelphi's BSN program for the fall. I am very excited!! I have a few questions. As a new transfer student (with a BA) but no pre-req's, how long would it take me to complete the BSN on a full-time basis? What can I expect during my first and second semesters? Will I take nursing classes with the pre-req's? Do the clinicals come after the pre-req's are done? Is Adelphi generous with its financial aid package/scholarships (I don't qualify for any grants or tap). I'd like to know what to expect, so I can start off on the right track. I'm probably attending Adelphi next semester for nursing and am in the same boat as you. I have a degree (BS) and do not have any of the prereqs done yet. Any advice/info on the program?? I have a few options for next semester and am trying to learn more about them from other students. Any info is greatly appreciated!!

Hi Hawks,

I like Adelphi. The professors are approachable and helpful. It has only been my 1st semester (junior status), but I have had a positive experience so far. The professors with the graduate assistants seem to be a bit lazy because they let them do all the work (literally, they just sit at their desk). However, my other professors try hard to help us learn & understand the material. I also hold a previous BA as I previously stated. Adelphi is one of the more expensive colleges (the spring semester will cost me around $13,000 alone to give you an idea). I was accepted late, so Adelphi had few funds available for me, but I did get a small academic scholarship (my GPA was a 3.7 when I entered). For everything else, I used Stafford loans, which cover (with the scholarship) about half of the total tuition for the year. You will definately need a private loan to cover the difference & textbooks, etc. You must finish all pre-req's & science courses (physiological chemistry, microbiology, A&P I & II) before you are allowed to take clinicals. No exceptions. You don't take clinicals & pre-req's at the same time. Everything must be in sequence & pre-approved by your assigned advisor. You must maintain an overall 3.0 GPA to stay in the nursing program, or you get put on academic probation. All required courses must be a C+ & higher. You can only repeat a class one time. It would be advisable to keep your grades as high as possible in case you want a master's down the road. You have to study for hours every day because there's a lot of material. It'll take me at least 3 years to graduate as long as I go full-time & take a few pre-req's during the summers. I'm happy so far, no complaints. I just gave you an encyclopedia of information!
