CUNY Hunter Generic Pathway Fall 2012

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone out there applied for CUNY Hunter's generic pathway for fall 2012?

Haven't seen a thread anywhere on this site so I thought I'd make one. :)

For those of you who know someone currently in the nursing program/graduates of the nursing program- Would you know where most of the clinical placements are?

I've personally heard of Hunter clinicals taking place in Bellevue, Presbyterian, Sloan-Kettering, Hospital of Special Surgery, NYU-Langone, and Mount Sinai

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Wow. I'm excited.

Me too. An amazing learning experience lies ahead! :D

Hey guys...

When you emailed***** with your Fall 2012 seat acceptance, she didn't reply to your emails right?

Nope she didn't.

Hey guys congratulations!

I'm a freshman right now, incoming Sophomore, and I was wondering, do they consider your overall GPA, or just is it based on just your pre-reqs for the program?? And did you guys apply to any other nursing programs? And how is microbio/anatomy? should I take it in hunter or another school??

Hey,

They consider overall GPA from all schools, so if you're a transfer student you'll need to send in transcripts from all schools. I didn't apply to any other nursing programs, but I'm sure other people did. I took A&P 1 at Hunter and did TERRIBLY so I decided to take A&P 2 at BMCC, which was the smartest decision I ever made. They only take summer e-permits though so I suggest you hop on that ASAP. As for microbiology, it's pretty decent. I'm glad I didn't end up taking it elsewhere, but I'm sure other CUNY's are easier.

I agree with payw, if possible TRY to take some of the more difficult pre-reqs such as A&P I and II at a different CUNY over the summer. Last year, I received my 'partial acceptance' to Hunter's Generic program but I received a grade of 'D' for A&P II so I did not get in. I pleaded and asked if I can be re-considered (if I retook that class and received a higher grade) but they were firm and said no.

That was a rude awakening call so I retook A&P II anyway at Lehman College during the summer session and it was easier b/c I only had to concentrate on one course and the material you were expected to know was a lot more condensed. I still had to put in effort and study everyday (there is an exam every week) but ultimately I got an 'A'. Microbiology was not so bad at Hunter but the students I met at Lehman college said they received high grades when they took microbio during the summer session. I'm finishing up my bachelors in psychology this May and I was accepted to Hunter's accelerated program!

I applied to other schools but they were for the accelerated track- LIU, SUNY Downstate, Concordia College, NYU, and Molloy College. I believe LIU, NYU, Molloy College, and College of New Rochelle offers the generic nursing programs. Best of luck!

Hello,

I was accepted into Hunter's pre nursing but now I am somewhat hesitant because of the Organic Chemistry I have to take. I took other chemistry classes at another CUNY school but not Organic. How is Organic Chem at Hunter for anyone that did it? Thanks.

When I took orgo at hunter it was manageable, although it wad the first time in my life I needed to get a tutor. I think orgo is one of those subjects that is dreaded everywhere. I know of people who took it at brooklyn college who felt the same way; either way you'll need to invest time into the subject, like any of the science prereqs. Don't let one class stop you from going forward, just make sure to keep on top of everything.

Orgo was easy as pie. I aced both lab and lecture.. and I honestly don't know why the avg test score was in the low 60s. My lowest grade was a 97 and I didn't have to take the final.

Don't let anyone scare you, just read the book and teach yourself. Your main concern will be the professor's teaching methods, which won't matter since you'll find yourself opting out of attending lecture anyway. You'll see what I mean

Thanks payw and Bk100. I feel so encouraged.
