Concordia Fall 2014 ABSN Program

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey everyone!

I thought I'd start a thread for those of us applying to Concordia for the upcoming fall semester. Previous classes have had really active threads in this forum, and I'd love to meet some of my potential (fingers crossed!) new classmates. I just had my interview, so now I'm in the checking-my-mailbox-everyday phase of the application process :nailbiting:

How is everyone feeling? Have you applied anywhere else? Was anyone else surprised by the TEAS requirement?

Hope to hear from you!

I got into the program last year but I planned to attend for Fall 2014. I got into another program and decided not to attend. Just wanted to let everyone applying that my spot is free.

I am actually surprised that they not require the TEAS. Last year, it was only a writing sample.

Good luck to you all!!!

Thanks for the info and good luck in your program this fall!

Hi,

For those of you that have graduated from the program or are currently enrolled would you be able to share your thoughts about the program, teachers, clinical's etc. I have been researching accelerated programs in the NY area and came across Concordia but have never heard of it before. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Also, does anyone know if when applying to nursing jobs if they base it off of the school that you attend? Or is it more about you passing the boards and your GPA. Would they be more inclined to choosing someone who went to NYU/Fairfield/Pace over a smaller school like Concorida?

Thanks!

ManilaEclair have you been accepted into the Fall 2014 program?

Yes, I have! I received my acceptance letter two days ago. I was originally told it would take about a month before I heard something so I was surprised (and really excited!) to receive an answer so quickly. It was my first choice so I will definitely be attending this fall. Did you apply as well?

congrats @manilaeclair! that was pretty fast , given that the deadline isn't until june 2nd! unless there was a priority i missed -_- anyway, do you mind sharing your stats?

Thanks so much, nguyent! Originally, the website listed a March 15th deadline, but it looks like they extended it. Everything I've read on these boards and heard from past students indicates that Concordia is a really great school with a supportive environment, so I'm really grateful to have been accepted :)

As far as my stats, I received an A in all my prereqs except for A&P1 (B+) and on the TEAS I scored in the high 90s (percentile rank) for each of the 4 sections. My overall undergrad GPA was really so-so, and I feel so lucky that I am getting a second chance to do it "right" - I definitely didn't appreciate school as much as I could have the first time around! And that's one of the many things I like about Concordia - they look at the applicant as a whole instead of just ranks and grades. I had a strong letter of rec and good volunteer experience, so I think that helped quite a bit.

Are you planning on applying to Concordia? Good luck and keep us updated!

Nguyent, I just realized you may be referring to Concordia University Irvine (they definitely have a June 2 deadline) but this thread is for Concordia College located in Bronxville, NY :)

@manilaeclair omgoodness I didn't realize I was in the wrong thread haha Still, that's great to know! Thanks for your reply (: Now I shall go wander and find the thread for the Irvine one -___-

@manilaeclair congrats on your acceptance! I recently just heard of Concordia and have been doing some research on it. Like you mentioned their pass rates for the boards is great and the feedback I've read from previous students is positive. I reached out to admissions last week and they said they are still accepting applicants for the fall. I sent in my application at the end of last week and am just waiting for my transcript and reference letter to arrive there. I'm currently finishing my pre-req classes which they said is fine and that applicants could still be accepted as long as they are completed prior to the start of the program. Now it is just a waiting game until I heard from them :) I'll keep you posted, congrats again on your acceptance!

That's great, memw! Once they received all my paperwork, it wasn't long before my interview was scheduled and the decision followed soon after, so your wait shouldn't be too long. Good luck!
