Best hospitals to work in Manhattan and Brooklyn?

U.S.A. New York

What are some of the best hospitals to work in Manhattand and Brooklyn? Preferably manhattan; Regarding nurse to patient ratio, friendliness of staff, willingness to teach new nurses, salary, etc...

I would like to begin volunteering at a few of those hospitals to increase my chances of hire and get familar with the hospital. Any advice would help.

Specializes in Pediatrics, OB/GYN.

Depends on what you are interested in. Memorial Sloan Kettering is pretty well known for treating their nurses well (and I'm almost certain they have the highest starting salary for new grads in Manhattan). No disgruntled nurses there.

I've heard fantastic things about NY Presbyterian, Mt Sinai, and NYU as well.

Specializes in Oncology.

I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering but not as a nurse, as a Session Assistant in the clinics. The hospital is amaxing. They really treat their employees well. They also have a way of hiring people that all mesh well together which always makes for a great work environment. Once I graduate, I hope to return there to work as a nurse.

I actually will begin volunteering at New York Presbyterian this summer, and from what I've seen, the work environment is great. Everyone I've met has been very friendly and the atmosphere seems professional but pleasant. I start volunteering next week but I've been in the unit I'll be working in, and around the hospital a number of times, and it seems to be a great place to work. I'll try and update once I do start volunteering there.

Thank you ladies for the replys. I've decided to volunteer at a hospital or nursing home near my area, starting today. Hopefully that will give me some experience. I don't want to pay metrocard money to travel to manhattan just yet.

Keep the replys coming, they are soo helpful!

bellafsu,

I know that this post is kind of old, but would you mind telling me what your responsibilities were as a Session Assistant and maybe even the pay? I'm glad to hear that you liked it. I will be starting to volunteer at NY presb hopefully starting in March

Thanks!
