Anyone starting pre-clinical @ QCC in January?

I just got my pre-clinical sequence acceptance letter from QCC today (Happy Thanksgiving!) and I was wondering if any other allnurses.com members are in the same boat? I'm coming in as a transfer student, so I'm hoping that a few of the pre-reqs are taken care of so that I can focus mostly on A&P.

Also, if you are in the same boat, are you taking any placement exams this coming Monday? My Thanksgiving holiday has been all about trying to brush up on my math (it's been a while)!

Hello!

Yes, I got accepted (as a transfer student from LAGCC) to QCC's doing my pre-clinical as well. I have a couple classes left before I can take the clinicals. I have my advisement appt but in January so I'm not sure if I can even take an A&P because I'm sure it's closed and full.

I didn't take any placement exams but in LAGCC I had to take remedial math because I haven't been in school since 14 years - so it was expected to have a refresher class in that subject for me.

Congrats and maybe we'll be in a class (or two) together!

Yes, advisement on January 4th for transfer students (me too!) but since A&P is part of the pre-clinical sequence, there has to be a space for us, no? I sure hope so!

The A&P class is ever so popular and fills up quickly. It was the same in LAGCC. If it is closed/full, I wait till the day after payment is due because there are almost always a couple of seats that open up. So even though it's part of the pre-clinical, there are no guarantees a space is being held. Did you get a time for your advisement appt? I was told to be there at 2pm and bring immunization papers. If you don't have those papers, she said they can't advise us. So make sure you have yours!!

That's scary that there's no guarantee for A&PI, considering that's the most important pre-clinical class...

Oh, and thanks for the reminder on the immunization papers! I'll be sure to have everything ready for the 4th (I think my appointment is in the morning...)

As of right now, all A&P1 classes are full. You can check their availability online. I was in the same boat as all of you this past Jan. But I kept on checking for open seats (3 times a day), and got one on the sunday before classes started. Good luck to you guys.

Thanks! Just today I found an open A&P1 lab/lecture combo class; it looks like they may have added a whole new class? There were 7 remaining seats as of this morning. Good luck everyone!

congrats. I just went to take a look to see who your professor would be, but it doesn't say. Also looks like the lab class is full already. Assuming I'm looking at the right course code. 2177.

An A/A- in ap1 is pretty important. Are you taking any of the other 3 core courses also? No repeats allowed at QCC, so don't slack on any of the exams. I got a 67 on my first lab exam (first time back in school in almost 10 years). I needed to study like crazy on the other 7 exams to pull off my A-.

I was able to transfer some credits, so luckily I only have to worry about a sociology class (writing intensive) and A&P1.

It looks like "Sherman, S." is my A&P professor. Any thoughts?

Also, were you able to get your books at the campus bookstore? The online ordering system doesn't even have the spring semester uploaded yet... I'm assuming the books required are the same as the previous semester (although it does say Jan/Feb):

CLIFFS QCK.REV, ANATOMY+PHYSIOLOGY

SHIER, HOLE'S HUMAN ANAT.+PHYS.-STUD.

GARRETT, GET READY FOR A+P

SHIER, HOLES HUMAN ANATOMY+PHYSIOLOGY

Sorry, I have no experience with this professor. Never really heard of any of my current classmates taking him either. The only required book is the Holes Textbook. The Study Guide and Cliff Notes is optional. There's also a picture Atlas that is optional. I was at the bookstore 3 weeks ago, and most of the Spring texts are already for sale. I've never looked at the Study Guide before, but the Cliffnotes is useless. With A&P, you really have to study from the textbook for the lecture.

And for the labs, I used the Biology Tutoring Center a lot. I didn't actually get tutored, but they have all the models there for you to review on your own or with your classmates. A lot of my classmates used their cameraphone to take a picture of everything during lab. I bought the atlas, so I didn't take any pictures.
