Advance career fair @ Mad. sqare garden

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi,

Just wondering if there are any recent grads out there going to the advance job fair next week? I waited until I took my nclex (april) and got my license (mid april) to start applying for jobs-I graduated in Jan. '08.

I'm kind of freaking out that i won't be able to find work!! I haven't heard from anyone yet, although it's only been about a week. I figure since I already got my license, I have a leg up on the May grads?

I am getting so bored sendin' out resumes  and feeling stuck in a rut-don't employers know ya can't really get experince till you get that first job :stone

Specializes in ER/SURGICAL ICU/PACU/MEDICAL ICU.

What school did you graduate from? I finished up at NYU in January and many hospitals were/are searching.. Where did you apply?

Specializes in ED.

I graduate in Jan 2008 and got my RN license in April. I got three interview and they want to hire me but I like to work in ER/ICU. So still in search.

Send your resume every where, You will get job before june.

Good luck

hey all,

thanx for the replies and encouragement! I haven't been applying to many places-

Thanks to the job fair I got an interview at a peds center I think would be cool to work in-also NYU's nurse residency program sounds good (both my degrees are from NYU w/ honors) so that would work even though july's a late start-I'm getting that application in tomorrow-

I just don't think I was being proactive enuf in my job hunt, I've ramped it up now-Even though I have the grades, solid recommendations, etc I think I present better in person

Also, I'm not sure what specialty area I really like (don't like telemetry/cadiac tho)-I'm maybe too flexible, as i am not opposed to med surg! I personally like getting diff cases but the higher patient load sux and is just askin' for mistakes to be made:uhoh21:

nurse212 I may know who you are-we both graduated in Jan '08-the accelerated program too?:smokin:

Here in upstate western NY, the hospitals are falling all over themselves getting to the new grads. None of the graduating class at my school are having to do much job hunting. If you ever get tired of the big city...!

These are just a starting point, but I know they recruit our students (scheduled to graduate in May) beginning in December. Our local newspapers are full of ads for new grads.

Check out the websites and see if the facilities are something you can work with.

Our area is very nice, somewhat rural, but with access to larger urban areas, like Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse. Career advancement and continuing education, as well as a low cost of living (compared to the rest of the state) are very attractive reasons to consider relocating.

Send me a pm if you have questions!

Thanks, I just email my resume to those hospital. I hope, I will get some reply. I can relocate, if I can get in ICU/ER department. Highland hospital hire new grad for ICU.

Thanks

Highland Hospital in Rochester? That's excellent. They're part of the Strong Health system along with the U of R Med Center. Rochester is a beautiful city... my adopted hometown! And Highland is in a gorgeous part of town. Very residential and green, yet near everything!

Please let me know if you hear anything!
