U.S.A. New York

Published

I really want to get into the accelerated nursing program at Stony Brook. I want to get some information on how hard it would be to get in. I have a BA degree form Brooklyn College with a 3.3 GPA. My grades for the prerequisite classes that I have so far are:

Chemistry A-

Developmental Psychology A

A&P 1 A

A&P 2 A

other Science B

I still have to take Statistics (which I'm planing on taking this summer) and Microbioloy

I'm also Currently enrolled in SUNY Downstate for Diagnostic Medical Sonography with a GPA of 3.3 and I also do clinical rotations at different hospitals during each semester.

I applied to Stony Brook whith the intention of a nursing major when I was in high school but wasn't accepted so I went another route but would really like to get into nursing.

I would really appreciate any adivce anyone has to increase my chances of getting in.

Specializes in Gerontological, cardiac, med-surg, peds.

Moved to New York Nursing Program Forum, since this is a better forum for this sort of inquiry :)

Pretty competitive, the standard 2 year is about 6 or 7 hundred applicants for about 60+- spots, I think the accelerated is fewer applicants but still very competitive ( I am not 100% sure if there are fewer applicants I have not heard that from any official source). GPA is importand but so is the letters of recommendation and personal essay. I would suggest you review the saga of the last group to go through this process and there are many great informational posts. If you look as some of the last posts, you will see some great information from PACO69, he just finished the accelerated program, I am halfway through the 2 year. Awesome school, great staff, and the hospital is an indoor walk away so your clinical prof's are nearby in many cases for questions and advice. If it fits you situation think about applying for both programs. I will post on both blogs so that you can find them. Good luck.
