Greetings!

Glad to know that our NM thread is still kicking.. I am not in UNM's nursing program, though I have friends who have completed the program and who are currently in the program. From what I have heard and know about the program, it is very textual more so than hands on. It also is very hard to get into. You need to have a high HESI score as well as a high GPA. Another way you can decide if it is right for you is to look at their NCLEX passing rates. 2013, they were in the 70's which is not very good. Do your research and set up a meeting to see a nursing advisor. I applied in the fall of 2013, but was not accepted. In my opinion, the advisors were not helpful and the entire selection process seems to be a little unfair. There are a lot of people who share the same opinion as I do, but I would advise that you do your research. There are a lot of great nursing programs in Albuquerque. I will be starting Santa Fe's accelerated nursing program in May and I am very excited- you need to figure out what school is best for you and which one suits your needs.

Good luck!

I agree with Capriinverno. Research is your friend when it comes to the nursing programs in our state, and the first-time nclex pass rates on the NM board of nursing website do not lie. Thankfully we have the option to get a BSN in/around Albuquerque from GCU, CNM, and SFCC now...UNM is no longer the only name in the game.

I, like Capriinverno, applied to UNM and was rejected... four times. Definitely look into other options just in case, because you never know. I can give you information on GCU if you want as I am going to start their accelerated BSN program in January, and let me tell you, I am so happy that UNM rejected me because in the end I was accepted to a great school that truly cares about its nursing students. Plus, GCU has a 100% nclex pass rate and students there are highly looked upon in our community... and our scrubs are purple (I love purple)!

I found my place at GCU and am extremely happy; the sense of community around our small campus is amazing... I never felt that at the college of nursing over at UNM while I was doing my prereqs. Like Capriinverno said, do your research, visit the college of nursing over at UNM if you haven't already, but if you can visit GCU, CNM, and SFCC as well, just so you have options and don't get stuck and discouraged!

Good Luck!
