U.S.A. New Mexico

Good morning NM nurses! This is my first posting with allnurses.com. I am a first semester nursing student in Albuquerque. When I began my nursing venture, I only knew I wanted to help people. I was unaware of the numerous fields and specialties involved! I am hoping that I may pick the brains of experienced RN's, to help me define the field that is best suited to me. Thank you in advance for your time!

1. What is your specialty

2. What college course work do you refer to most often?

3. In your opinion, what personality traits are required for this position?

4. What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

5. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

6. Is this the only nursing field you have worked in? If not, please specify one other field with your likes and dislikes.

7. What are the average hours for an RN in your specialty?

8. What are your main duties as an RN in your specialty?

9. Is there a high attrition rate in your field? What is your opinion on why or why not?

10. If you had a chance start over, knowing what you know now, would you become an RN again?

Ok, so I answered you questions the best I could. I just graduated from CNM a few weeks ago and landed myself a DREAM job in the NICU.

I have a blog you can follow. I'm using this as my coping mechanism on making the transition from student nurse to RN (real nurse). I'm also hoping that it helps people in nursing school prepare for the transition from being in school to being in the real world.

Thank you so much for your reply! I love to hear experiences of nurses, and it is exciting to hear about different nursing specialties. Kudos to you on your dream job! The NICU seems to be one of the most desired nursing positions out there. I will check out your blog... I'm a glutton for information!
